Q1) Who is the best (c) this week? With Liverpool facing Arsenal and Palmer a doubt, captaincy feels wide open in GW3. Many will overlook Bruno Fernandes after United’s shock result vs Grimsby and his missed penalty, but that only increases his appeal as a differential.

Had he scored that spot-kick last week, we’d be talking about a 12-point haul and not questioning him at all. He’s still on pens, set pieces, and central to United’s attack vs Burnley – for me, Bruno is the standout armband pick.

Haaland is the “safe” option, Brighton leave space in behind and he’ll exploit it. Salah is always a fallback, but Arsenal’s strong defence lowers his ceiling. For me, Bruno offers the best mix of safety + high upside this week.

Q2) What to do with Palmer? If Palmer is only out for a single GW, even holding him could be an option. With the break coming, he should return by GW4 & keeping him now could potentially save a transfer later down the line. However, this depends on the bench depth you have.

If you do decide to sell, Bruno is my top priority this week. Another option is to go cheaper in midfield and invest the spare cash up front – Gyökeres looks particularly appealing as a long-term play given that he will be on penalties. Havertz's absence will help his mins too.

Q3) Best Saka replacements? Saka looks out for at least 3 GWs, so holding doesn’t make sense. At his price, there are strong alternatives – my preference again is Bruno, given his central role and fixture against Burnley.

You could also go cheaper in midfield and upgrade a forward. Gyökeres stands out – nailed, possibly on pens, and set for more minutes in Saka’s absence. Buying now could save a future transfer when his fixtures improve further.

Q4) What to do with Georginio? If there’s no clear injury update, it might be safer to move him on. Plenty of strong mids around his price: Sarr looks excellent with good data + fixtures, and Tielemans could even be on pens for Villa with a good fixture run to follow too.

Reijnders is another name, but Pep’s rotation always carries risk. With tougher fixtures till GW6, I’d personally swerve him for now and stick to safer, more nailed midfielders in this price range.

Q5) Wirtz, Strand Larsen, Mateta, Watkins – sell or keep? Wirtz has underwhelmed, but Burnley + Everton in GW4/5 makes him worth holding. Mateta is also a keep – with Nketiah gone + Eze out, he’s set for more minutes and looks to be on penalties.

Larsen is another patience play. Wolves host Everton this week, and he’ll likely be focal point + pen taker with Cunha out. Fixtures ahead are great. Watkins? Simple – fixtures too good, definite hold.

Q6) Is João Pedro essential? João Pedro is a good FPL asset, but one big haul doesn’t suddenly make him essential. The West Ham game fell perfectly for him, and while he’ll get steady points, I wouldn’t rip up a team to bring him in.

Yes, if Palmer is out this week he may inherit penalties, but compared to forwards like Watkins or Mateta, his upside isn’t significant enough to justify calling him a must-own. It's relatively the same as the two I mentioned. Strong option, yes – essential, no.

Q7) Best Aït-Nouri replacements? Porro is my standout – Spurs have 2 clean sheets already, and with Maddison out, he also has set-piece upside. He’s offering both defensive stability + attacking threat.

If you already own Porro, Murillo is worth a look. Top for defensive contributions per 90 last season and with good fixtures ahead, he’s a strong budget enabler from Forest’s defence.

Q8) Thoughts on Gakpo and Ekitike? Gakpo’s minutes have surprised me – 90 in both games, 3 returns already. Even vs Arsenal he can deliver, Liverpool’s attack is that good. At £7.5m, he’s emerging as an under-owned gem.

Ekitike could be a steal if Isak doesn’t arrive, with xMins in his favour. For now, I’d wait one more GW before investing heavily in Liverpool attackers ahead of Burnley + Everton in GW4/5.

Q9) Is this a good week to Wildcard? Most WCers I’ve seen are reacting to poor starts. It’s tempting when you’re behind in mini-leagues, but I don’t think GW3 is the time to panic.

Early weeks are volatile – the logic behind your initial picks often comes good over time. Unless your squad is in real disarray, I’d hold fire on the Wildcard.
