I'm getting a lot of pushback on my opinion regarding the faster pace of play in the MLB. So I'll say this... I am old, and extremely resistant to change. The leisurely pace of baseball is what makes it different than other sports and IMO better.
I love being able to discuss the pitch sequence in between pitches. I love watching a base runner dancing off first base teasing the pitcher to the point of making a mistake. I love mound visits. I love the figet-y routines of a hitter in the batters box.
But most of all I love spending the entire evening at the ballpark. I don't want to be rushed out of there in 2 hours when I've made the trip down, paid for parking, etc. I arrive early and always stay until the final out.
Nonstop action is great for hockey or basketball (both of which, I also enjoy). But baseball is different and that's why I love it so much and why I will enjoy every second. 2 hours, 3 hours, however long it takes to get those 27 outs ⚾❤️
@cardscookie Get rid of the pitch clock, take the strike zone off the tv screen, replay only for the egregious misses, bring back collisions at home plate and take out slides at 2nd, no DH in the NL and just play baseball!
@ogleb1 Yes!
@cardscookie I don't mind it. ....but man is the ghost runner the dumbest idea in all of sports!
@lou_nautic Oh 💯
@cardscookie I was at yesterday's game. It took me longer to drive to the casino to catch the Metrolink than the game lasted. I hate the pitch clock, the ghost runner, 2 disengagements, and the 3 batter minimum for pitchers.
@jimg19661 Amen
@cardscookie That's why I like hockey 🏒
@racerx150 I love hockey 😁
@cardscookie Cookie, you look like you're 25! You are not old. Now, my 1st games were at Sportsman's Park, so who's old? I completely agree with your take on traditional baseball. I never liked the DH, I love pitching duels & baseball is America. Watch Ken Burns' 'Baseball', outstanding!
@terrapin56 25 lol I wish
@cardscookie The leisurely pace of baseball makes some of us turn it off and go find something more interesting to watch.....I guess the MLB thinks there are more of me than there are more of you
@xdabluesfan Apparently
@cardscookie And tonight that ballpark saw a game that went 9 innings in an hour and 55 minutes.
@cardscookie I know you will disagree with this, but I can tolerate the DH. I started following baseball right after that came into existence. It has been there my whole time watching. Not it's biggest fan, but at least it's not insulting to fans' intelligence like the ghost runner.
@jimg19661 Yeah, on one hand I miss the nuance that pitchers hitting brought to the game. But, on the other hand, universal DH gave Albert one more season in STL and it was magical to watch.
@cardscookie The speed in which the game occurs today is perfect. Best change MLB has made in decades.
@CryptoWineGuy Nah
@cardscookie If you’re old then you’d realize the game is played at the pace it was for 100 out of 120 yrs of its history. The only outlier is between 2000-2023. So the game is now played at a pace it was during my childhood and I love it
@treeRockSand The time on the clock may be the same as back then, but the pace is definitely not. They have gotten rid of so many little things that made the game great. It is so far from the game I grew up with in the 80s and it makes me sad.
@cardscookie The reason why they put the pitch clock in was to speed up the game. I'm sorry you think baseball should be people standing around waiting for the pitcher to throw the baseball . Yankees Red Sox game's where so boring because they lasted 3 1/2 to 4 hrs. Like watching paint dry.
@LamburthL Agree to disagree. 4 hours of baseball is an evening well spent.
@cardscookie Agree! It was all part of the charm when I got hooked. It’s the same with cricket over here, when they try and condense the game into a shorter format. Like you say, maybe we’re just old and set in our ways!
@cardscookie I live about 2.5 hours from Busch. It’s not worth the drive over, expensive parking only to watch a 2 hour game. #stlcards
@cardscookie I agree
