2 . For years Japan was considered immune to mass immigration. Its society was thought to be closed and resistant to demographic change. That assumption is breaking.

3 . In 2010 Japan had around 110,000 Muslims. By 2019 it doubled to 230,000. By 2024 it crossed 350,000. Less than 0.3 percent of the population, but doubling almost every decade.😳

4 . The rise comes mainly from foreign workers. Indonesians, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis, and also Kurdish migrants have entered Japan in growing numbers. Tokyo alone has a visible Kurdish community.

5 . With 30% of Japan’s population over 65 and birth rates at just 1.2, the country is turning to migrant labor. The youth are unhappy with the influx of Muslim migrants and are protesting against the Prime Minister.

6 . Interfaith marriages and conversions also play a role. By 2020 nearly 50,000 Japanese citizens were within the Muslim community. Religion gives these migrants stronger cohesion than Japan’s largely secular population.

7 . Infrastructure reflects the trend. In 1999 there were about 15 mosques in Japan. By 2025 that number passed 115. Halal food, prayer spaces, and Islamic schools are growing steadily. Yet they pray on highways 🤡

8 . Kurds, though small in number, add another layer. Concentrated in Saitama and Tokyo, they maintain strong communal identity, and clashes with Japanese police in past protests show early signs of cultural friction.

9 . Shinto and Buddhism remain dominant, but Japan’s secularization weakens cultural resistance. In contrast, Islamic communities expand with religious unity and growing visibility.

10 . In 2015, Japan had 70,000 Muslims, growing 400 percent to over 350,000 by 2025. The growth is outpacing the shrinking native population, and by 2050 the imbalance will be sharper.

12 . Anti-Immigration March in Japan Thousands in Osaka took to the streets to voice their opposition to further migration. Across the globe, people are expressing similar concerns. Many are starting to wake up to the issue.

14 . Europe’s experience shows how migration, combined with demographic decline, can alter culture within a generation. Japan is beginning to walk the same path.
