Vladimir Putin did not wake up on 24 February 2022 and decide, “I think I’ll invade eastern Ukraine today,” nor was the US campaign to expand NATO into Ukraine a last-minute maneuver. (US State Department documents show Ukraine’s future membership was discussed as early as 1994.)
@DietHeartNews Helllo Alan, Thank you for the Russian propaganda. Allow me to factually debunk this with verified facts: - NATO expansion. No such thing was promised. You point to Baker, he had no authority and made no deal. The "no inch to the east" was about troops stationed in Germany and
@oorlog_monitor Here are the documents: https://nsarchive.gwu.edu/brie...
@DietHeartNews As you said there was a discussion with USSR - not ruSSia. You can not find “one inch to the east.”, because there is no such document. In 2008 the US and Germany Stayed the discussed of Ukraine in NATO is appease Putin. It was not discussed again until after 2014 invasion.
@Joe_Edgar_ Declassified documents reveal security assurances against #NATO expansion to Soviet leaders; including, "not one inch to the east" of a united Germany in NATO. Here are the documents you assert do not exist. https://nsarchive.gwu.edu/brie...
@DietHeartNews Putin presents himself as Russia’s protector, but in reality he’s the greatest danger to Russians. Instead of investing oil wealth into modernization like Norway, the Gulf states, or China, he built a corrupt, stagnant system dependent on raw exports. His invasion of Ukraine has
@CZilmer 10 Feb 2007, Vladimir Putin was invited to speak at the Munich Security Conference. He questioned NATO's eastward expansion and its role in promoting tension and distrust between Russia and the West. Putin: “It turns out that NATO has put its frontline forces on our borders. I
@DietHeartNews Exactly. The 2008 Bucharest Summit made it explicit: Ukraine and Georgia "will become members of NATO." We've been poking the bear for decades, ignoring warnings from Kennan to Kissinger. History didn't start in 2022.
@markvantoll 1997: State Dept icon George Kennan, "who knew Russia best," fluent in both German and Russian, called Clinton's proposed NATO expansion, “the most fateful error of US policy in the post-Cold War era…" His final words during a Senate hearing: "Don't meddle in the #Ukraine."
@DietHeartNews You're right overall of course, I would just not use the "one inch eastward" statement as the best example. I get why it's used, it's snappy. But critics quite correctly point out that it only meant NATO/West German troops and equipment wouldn't move to East Germany after the

@DietHeartNews Very cool but its based on a lie. Gorbachev himself stated multiple times that there was no promise regarding nato expansion. YouTube · Європейська правда 29.1K+ views · 3 years ago "Обещание" НАТО не расширяться на Восток - это миф. Признание ...
@EU_mperor Interviewers put words in Mikhail Gorbachev's fading brain. Gorbachev knew he was not well-liked in Russia after 1991. In fact, he was widely despised by many Russians for the political and economic chaos he created.

@DietHeartNews And about the nato expansion...Again... https://www.brookings.edu/arti...
@irishman787878 Brookings is a U.S. neocon think tank (sic) based in the war capital of the world: Washington D.C. Anything they publish is suitable only for wrapping up fish guts... Besides, in Russia, no one liked Gorbachev after 1991...
@DietHeartNews Jeffrey Sachs tells it well also: https://x.com/SharpieDj/status...
@SharpieDj Thank you for posting this important video. Jeffrey Sachs is a rare American hero. People need to watch this!
@DietHeartNews The US did not spend $5 billion in regime change. Which regime? There have been several since #Ukraine’s independence. And the violence on Maidan was triggered TWICE by Yanukovych on the people and then fled on his own in the middle of the night with millions. He wasn’t forced.

@DietHeartNews There was no direct path for #Ukraine to join NATO. The US does not dictate who joins and the vote has to be anonymous, which didn’t happen because of Hungary and Slovakia. Ukraine was never going to join. If the US had that control, Ukraine would have been in NATO long ago.
@ridna_ua NATO's war against Russia is going beyond Ukraine; is looming in the Arctic, Baltic, Black Sea, in the Caucuses (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia), Moldova and in Romania, where NATO is building their largest airbase in Europe - why Kremlin hardliners are gaining seats at the table.
@DietHeartNews Is Ukraine in NATO? Have they initiated the process? Have NATO countries said that Ukraine can join? No. This is a war of imperial conquest for Russia, and any peace deal involves stealing land. Russia sent soldiers to Ukraine in 2014 to take Crimea, immediately after Maidan.
@NNuma92 Ukraine began hosting NATO exercises in 1995. Since then, Ukraine has hosted more NATO exercises than any NATO member. Since the mid-1990s, when the neocons hijacked US foreign policy, Ukraine has been a de facto NATO country - embedded with Right Sector neo-Nazi Banderites.
