@ProductUpfront Databases, ZFS metadata caches, heck even as an OS drive it'd work great. Being fast on small read/writes makes for a very snappy system. Look up some videos of optane boot times as an example.

@yashypn0 All modern NAND is optimized for sequential writes...moving fat files around. Optane was wild because it was designed for small, random reads/writes. More like system RAM. It is *still* often 10x faster than the best SSDs you can currently buy.

@lauriewired I only use Optane drives. Write durability, access time in the microseconds, 4k transfer. All superior to any NAND. The P5800X, while expensive, is the top tier for transfer speed but 90x series and P4800X drives are still plenty fast with decent prices.

@lauriewired Unfortunately, modern solutions are cheaper, and that's why they're phasing out. Who cares about a few seconds compared to having 10-20x the amount of storage at 1/3rd the cost.

@lauriewired They're dope but you can still get sub-20 µs writes on modern Solodigms. I'd love to throw one in a fileserver as a SLOG but the alien-tier latency is gonna get drowned out pretty quick in a network storage context
