One of these things where it’s so on the nose that you genuinely could not parody it.

@mattyglesias Seems like a rigorous and thoughtful question to me. What is the problem here? Too many white men?

@mattyglesias seems like a fine exercise. they are looking at it critically. isn't that the point?

@mattyglesias That seems like a fairly stock question for a freshman humanities course? Apply x giant of the Western Canon to y contemporary thinker

@mattyglesias Write your responses Matt

@mattyglesias 6 paragraphs? My heart weeps for their effort and time

@mattyglesias Nah it’s a good question

@mattyglesias Karp is a Jewish Supremacist that believes in the Talmud. https://x.com/TaroWheel/status...

@mattyglesias Hard to imagine what kind of person would pay for this kind of education.

@mattyglesias I can’t even imagine how annoying the students who chose to go to this “university” are

@mattyglesias Did Plato also look like he was prohibited from being within 500 feet of an elementary school?

@mattyglesias I don’t see the issue. Please explain.

@mattyglesias More challenging than regurgitating Foucault and Derrida. Answer the question please

@mattyglesias I think a lot of people who are complaining about your comment didn't see the OP from UATX explicitly saying this is all accessory to the upcoming Palantir panel. https://x.com/uaustinorg/statu...

@mattyglesias It's the rightwing equivalent of what is happening across all college campuses—an issue that you ignored/downplayed until recent years. And still don't take seriously.

@mattyglesias I’d like to just say that the USA is so fucked, but when the USA is this fucked up the chances are that it’s gonna fuck up the rest of us. How did it all go so wrong for the greatest republic that ever stood? I wonder……

@mattyglesias For a moment I thought this was UT Austin and was a little surprised with the tone and tenor of the messaging. Then realized my mistake

@mattyglesias Citing Plato is an interesting exercise but the real answer is that what is being proposed is FASCISM.

@mattyglesias the motivating power of honor culture and its limitations is like the only interesting part about classical philosophy. karp is fine.

@mattyglesias I took a real class on Plato’s Republic at the real “Austin University.” Why does this cosplay university exist?

@mattyglesias "Private companies integrating into the state itself with a view of promoting the national interest" is the core thesis of Facism isn't?

@mattyglesias Karp aside, is it really so bad to get the students thinking about how Plato might have fascistic tendencies?

@mattyglesias Yes, when I think of Plato the next name that comes to mind is obviously Alex Karp. Of course, of course.

@mattyglesias I hope students receive the worse grade of the two they submitted! Steelmanning is an important and underrated mental trait and I’m glad UATX is teaching it, no matter the context!

@mattyglesias Why? Genuinely curious. Evaluating new ideas using Plato's framework doesn't seem ridiculous? Treating it as comprehensive or conclusive might be, but some critical reading and thinking and analysis seems fine?

@mattyglesias I guess this is the school to go to if you want to work at Palantir

@mattyglesias Seems interesting and timely?

@mattyglesias At Harvard in 2025, they think men can get pregnant / only a weirdo would choose that environment.

@mattyglesias As a UT grad, UTAX’s existence makes me furious. I can’t wait for them to set up Harverd University in Boston

@mattyglesias Needs to be more Jewish.

@mattyglesias I was surprised!

@mattyglesias Keep this up and you might not have your own bust featured at the school

@mattyglesias i think you overestimate the intelligence of readers/followers on this site.

@mattyglesias What’s the issue? Karp was a legitimate philosophy scholar, PhD and published author BEFORE he was CEO of Palantir.
