this has to be one of the most obvious massive companies in 50 years to build, somebody please do this, it's so straightforward
@aphysicist what is the specific company you think should exist in this? bunch of people know are spending time in this and similar areas
@kevinakwok electric steel + grid scale transformer production. solid state is cool, but it's not proven at grid scale, and regulators and utilities won't adopt it fast enough. the immediate domestic need is at least $50B.
@aphysicist @kevinakwok Utilities are mainly late adopters. NextEra is usually an early adopter.
@aphysicist @kevinakwok $powl $psix $uan One either truly understands these things or they never respected things beyond electromechanical fidgeting.
@aphysicist @kevinakwok There’s a general catalyst backed startup that just came out of stealth doing this I think - electrical equipment Spoke with them last year as I was hunting the globe for a transformer
@aphysicist @kevinakwok the problem is your new transformer production line depreciates over 50 years, especially if you do volume manufacturing, while the gpu it’s distributing power to depreciates in 3. risk drives up the cost of capital. it’s a finance problem.
@aphysicist @kevinakwok Time to dump the steel regulations
@aphysicist @kevinakwok The Obama DOE mandated that 25% of new transformers be amorphous metal alloy instead of electric steel in 2024. Large part of the problem. https://www.energy.gov/article...
@aphysicist @kevinakwok We’ve been looking for founders targeting this problem. Founders hit us up.
@aphysicist @kevinakwok The waiting list is 50-60 weeks. I do not understand why we can’t make them in the USA.
