In 1947, the UN proposed a two-state solution. One Jewish state. One Arab state. The Jews said yes. The Arabs said no. The next day, Arab militias attacked Jewish civilians. The war started before Israel existed.

On May 14, 1948, Israel declared independence. The next day, five Arab nations invaded. Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan. Their goal wasn’t coexistence. It was extermination. Their words, not ours.

In the chaos of war, many Arab civilians fled. Some fled battle zones. Some feared Jewish retaliation. But in many cases, Arab leaders ordered them to leave — temporarily — until the Jews were defeated. “We will return soon.”

A few examples — from Arab sources: 🔹 Iraqi PM Nuri Said: “We will smash the country. The Arabs should leave until we do.” 🔹 Syrian PM Khalid al-Azm (memoirs): “We encouraged them to leave. We brought disaster upon them.” This was not a secret.

Meanwhile, 156,000 Arabs remained in Israel — and became full citizens. At the same time, 850,000 Jews were expelled from Arab lands: Iraq, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Syria. They lost everything. No right of return. No UN agency. No Nakba Day.

So what is the Nakba? It’s not about peace. It’s not about land. It’s about mourning the failure to destroy the Jewish state. They tried. They lost. They’ve never accepted it. That’s the real story.

The Nakba was not a genocide. It was a failed one. It began with a war of aggression. It ended in Arab defeat. And to this day, they mourn not what they lost, but what they failed to take. ✡️🇮🇱
