HEY has some 100,000 lines of code that's being tested by 30,000 assertions. This used to take upwards of 15 minutes through the complication of cloud runners. We can now do this locally in 1m 22s on a Framework Desktop (almost twice as fast as an M4 Max!). THANK YOU AMD + LINUX!
It's actually amazing just how much faster Linux is than macOS when Docker or manipulating many small files is key to the workload, like it is for most web development. It's by far the easiest and cheapest way to accelerate the development bottlenecks, and doesn't require cloud.

@dhh Why can't same run on computer hosted in your office? Relying on approver's say that they ran test locally is bit strange on this whole scene. 🤔

@dhh That's nice. But past 2 days the performance of Hey has been very slow. It's takes painfully long time to navigate search and open anything in the app.

@dhh Were the cloud runners GitHub Actions? If so, dodging that is another HUGE time save.
@dhh Such acceleration (30k assertions in 1m22s) makes it possible to run the full test suite locally more often and reduces dependence on remote CI runners. This is a real shift in team development practices.
@dhh Hard to justify the 15 min time to run tests that can be run that fast by (relatively cheap) computers. In my current role tests also take closer to 30 minutes to run, would be fun to see how much that could be optimized by just buying own server for it.

@dhh oh god this is a massive difference, imagine all the bills put into making macOS vs he very little that has been put into linux
