Every PC gamer must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing.
We have made an amazing and fun and huge looter shooter campaign game. The game is pretty damn optimal - which means that the software is doing what we want without wasteful cycles on bad processes.
With Borderlands 4, every PC gamer has a LOT of tools to balance their preferences between FPS, resolution, and rendering features. If you aren’t happy with the balance between these things you are experiencing, please tune to your preferences using the tools available to you.
We appreciate the incredibly high degree of passion and excitement there is for the game we have been developing for over six years. We know strong feelings leads to strong opinions. We hear you and see you.
For a campaign shooter looter, it is absolutely reasonable for developers to focus on default settings achieving 30fps on minimum specification and 60fps on recommended specification.
Some of you would prefer more fps, or more features, or higher resolution. We have provided many tools to help you make those trade offs.
It is a mistake to believe or expect that PCs between minimum specification and recommended specification can achieve all of extremely high frame rate, maximum/ultra features, and extremely high resolution.
If that last post makes you have a negative reaction, I bet you have emotions and expectations that you feel aren’t sufficiently attended to. I’m sorry.
But please accept that the game is doing a lot and running pretty optimally and that you may have to either accept some trade offs between fps, features and resolution as your preference or you will continue to be disappointed.
There are a few real issues, but they are affecting a very, very small percentage of users. We are fixing those and many are already fixed.
We are also doing significant work on PC performance and, well, everything else that is coming at us. We’re not stopping.
If you have feelings about PC performance, my advice is to not wait and to make the trade offs to prioritize what is important to you.
If it’s FPS, you can get high FPS by turning some features down or reducing resolution. If it’s features or resolution, you may be playing at 60fps or even 30fps if you have lower end hardware.
Use DLSS. It’s great. The game was built to take advantage of it. This is not a competitive FPS. And, I have been led to believe that in a blind test that humans cannot detect any input lag. In my own demonstrates and experiments, I believe this is true.
Everyone has the freedom to believe what they want to believe and I know on the internet it’s easy to find rage and passionate people who are convinced of all kinds of things, whether they are true or not.
If you are so attached to the idea that DLSS is bad for your game experience because of something you saw or read on the internet, I am sorry. I hope instead you would use the technology designed to give you the experience you want.
But you do you! And we’ll keep working! The more people that play, the more data we get and the easier it is to keep making improvements. So thank you for playing and thank you for your passion!
If you think you have a different kind of issue that is real that I haven’t spoken to here, PLEASE reach out to Customer Service, I have personally done some CS for Borderlands 4 and have helped a lot of people. But it’s impossible for me to help everyone. Use CS!
And thank you for your passion! I know nobody posts anything unless they *really* care about something and from the most passionate love to the most passionate hate, you are all telling me that you *really* care. I feel you and I thank you!
@DuvalMagic Your game runs like garbage and no it is not ok. Especially when also it runs at extreme below resolution on consoles, while at the same time looking worse tgen borderlands 2. You made a bad game on a bad engine with a bad approach and even worse arrogance. Those are the facts.
@DuvalMagic Hey Randy, I've done a personal dissection into the games frames using renderdoc, and from what I could tell most of the time of a frame is spent on nanite's geometry passes. Are there any plans to move to UE 5.6 which made significant improvements to Nanite's performance in
@DuvalMagic Hey Randy, first I just want to say I love BL4. I've never been captured by the pervious titles, this one hits different. I am begging you to stop tweeting.
@DuvalMagic Wrong, We have whole history of gaming to show for the same hardware devs that could achieve mid and those who went beyond, You are below mid
@DuvalMagic I beefed up my PC way before this game came out. I’m having zero issues with the game. I guess Randy is right. Games are only going to get more demanding.
@DuvalMagic It’s like trying to run BattleRise on a potato. What's the biggest framerate struggle you've faced? 🤔
@DuvalMagic I agree but I wouldn’t be tweeting this the reviewers are already mad enough
@DuvalMagic You aren’t wrong. But telling gamers that THEY are wrong has never really worked.
@DuvalMagic My PC is 4 years old and runs it like a dream after updates. Not sure why anyone would be upset
@DuvalMagic So, BL4 is for the 1%? (a joke)
@DuvalMagic Fair enough I guess.
@DuvalMagic huh
@DuvalMagic Please explain what is this game doing that it requires so much resources ? Open world tech that existed for at least 20-30 years now ? Encounters that are scripted and enemies that can re spawn on the spot ? Graphics that are OK but look like B3 ? Please Randy tell us what ?
@DuvalMagic If I made a video showing all of my internal specs, all of my hardware (which are exactly the recommended), on low settings, using DLSS on performance, and you see me get sub 50-40 fps, will that shit your fucking delusional ass up because at this point idk what will, youre wrong
@DuvalMagic Randy with all due respect what you are doing here is telling us to settle for framegen (horrible input delay) with upscaling (blurry / muddy visuals) at 1080p. This is insane. We used to run these kinds of things natively without any crutches. Please reconsider these tweets.
@DuvalMagic But is not Just pc on PS5 you have memeory Leaks which cant even hold 60 fps drops to 48.
@DuvalMagic @DuvalMagic Bro, I can guarantee you the Triangle Counts in BL4 is ass and the main reason it's unoptimized. Y'all rely to heavily on upscaling and frame gen, and I bet you have random rocks that possess 3mil triangles each thrown across the map. Miss me with this bro lmao
