Adding collagen to protein powder increases muscle protein synthesis by more than 30%.

A randomized controlled trial from Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise found that mixing 5 grams of collagen with 25 grams of whey protein post-workout increases muscle protein synthesis by 33% (when compared to whey alone).

This combo supercharges your body’s ability to build contractile muscle fibers and recover faster. If you’re serious about upgrading your performance, this is hands-down one of the most effective post-workout stacks.

A 5:1 ratio of whey to collagen is not just about packing on muscle fibers – it’s also repairing your connective tissue. Collagen contains glycine and proline, two amino acids that help control inflammation so your tendons and joints can rebuild and grow without delay.

When you stack whey and collagen together, you’re not just recovering – you’re triggering a more complete, high-performance recovery response than whey on its own. Study: https://journals.lww.com/acsm-...

@daveasprey @ArAIstotle fact check this please

@daveasprey That most likely increases mTOR, which is bad for longevity.

@daveasprey Is this checked? If it is, damn

@daveasprey Did they increase the whey to 30 grams or keep it at 25?

@daveasprey Did you read the study? The control was a noncaloric placebo, not whey.

@daveasprey Wow! About the studies showing that it does not matter when you take the protein during the day that your muscles will absorb all the same. Does this mean we can do the same but not right after workouts?

@daveasprey You mean like meat.

@daveasprey Yep, mixing 25g whey with 5g collagen post-workout really boosts muscle protein synthesis, around 33% more than whey alone. Whey builds your muscle fibers, collagen supports your tendons and connective tissue, so together it’s a good combo for recovery and strength.

@daveasprey Making absolute statements like this within sport science is a major red flag 🚩

@daveasprey Eaa does too. Wonder if that is related.

@daveasprey Doubt it

@daveasprey So does this

@daveasprey And it adds prion load by how many %?

@daveasprey Better question - how about collagen from food?

@daveasprey Funny I am already doing this without realizing the synergistic effect

@daveasprey Wow. No competition for absorption?

@daveasprey Collagen is powerful 💪

@daveasprey Yeah but that ammount of protein making is harmful for the body. Since the liver is the same while your muscles get bigger. The load of added peoteins to be metabolized should be tolerated by liver that is the same size and potential.

@daveasprey A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis found no meaningful effect of collagen protein on muscle strength or recovery when added to exercise, highlighting its inferiority compared to other protein sources. https://www.germanjournalsport...

@daveasprey Dave you are an ID10T if you eat what man was meant to eat you would not need either!! We are Carnivore NOT Omnivore. Eat more red meat FOOL!!!

@daveasprey Not when the daily intake is optimal. Nobody is gaining 30% more of anything by adding a few grams of collagen.

@daveasprey 1/ The RCT cited for this claim enrolled just 28 young men - measured MPS over 5 hours post-exercise. This icannot be used to meaningfully predict actual muscle growth or clinical outcomes, especially since muscle hypertrophy and functional improvement require weeks to months.

@daveasprey I take collagen as pre workout…whey post. Am i missing out?? This works for me as workout in morn & find it difficult to eat prior.

@daveasprey And adding Glycene to collagen allows for collagen synthesis to actually happen. Without Glycene it’s a dead duck 🦆 Ain’t that right Dave?

@daveasprey Collagen peptides?

@daveasprey No, the control was not whey alone, it was a placebo.

@daveasprey Makes sense, people used to eat muscle meat together with the collagen parts

@daveasprey Thoughts on the bone broth protein? Do you need the collagen with that too?

@daveasprey @hubermanlab any take on all of this?

@daveasprey And it doesn't hurt that collage is good for your face skin also. It's gotta be collagen peptides though.

@daveasprey Don’t do protein powder in the first place. With or without collagen. Bad for kidneys and liver. I’ve been there
