I just couldn’t wait. Scyther won a regional championship! I’m sure most of y’all are confused as hell, so I wanted to help y’all pick up what @SplattyDaddyVGC & Monterrey Champion @PengyTwitch are laying down! So join me as I answer the question: “What that bug doin?” (1/10)
I don’t have stats from Monterrey, but here’s the day 1 stats from Frankfurt. Notice anything? With Dual Wingbeat, Close Combat, and U-Turn Scyther hits 10/12 of these dudes for super effective damage! With base 110 attack and base 115 speed, Scyther gets some crazy KOs (2/10)
252+ Atk Technician Scyther Dual Wingbeat (2 hits) vs. 180 HP / 108 Def Annihilape: 216-256 (103.8 - 123%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ Atk Technician Scyther Dual Wingbeat (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 60 Def Volcarona: 264-312 (137.5 - 162.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO (3/10)
252+ Atk Scyther Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Kingambit: 232-276 (112 - 133.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO Not only do you pick up Annihilape, Volc and Kingambit, put you also OHKO sash Sneasler AFTER intimidate and many non-sitrus Amoonguss (4/10)
And defensively, Scyther is already a whole ass mon, but with Eviolite it’s hella bulky. Throw in Intimidate and even with no bulk you get this: -1 252+ Atk Guts Ursaluna Facade (140 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Scyther: 111-132 (76 - 90.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (5/10)
And U-Turn gives it great repositioning. So if you can handle Dragonite, Gholdengo, and Rain — Scyther goes off Looking at Pengy’s team you’ve got AV Incin and Maranga Berry Garg to bully the HELL out of Ghold, and Dnite hates to see Sylveon and Ninetales coming (6/10)
I know this team looks crazy - and it is - but it’s not the niche mons that make it so crazy What makes it crazy is how @SplattyDaddyVGC and @PengyTwitch took such a different approach. So much of Reg H right now is focused on offensive set up (7/10)
Instead of countering with their own set up they use disruption, pivoting, and healing to maintain the upper hand Trick Choice Scarf, Salt Cure, and Yawn all wreck set up. Double U-Turn with Veil, Intim, and Wish passing gives you insane unmatched longevity (8/10)
But this team isn’t all defense. Scyther is an amazing offensive meta call— but throat spray Sylveon is the hardest hitting fairy we’ve got, Ghold does Gholdengo things, and AV Incin packs a punch. But what this team does best is out postion and maneuver the opponent (9/10)
And now you know how the hell Scyther won a regional! (Aside from Pengy being cracked) Hope you enjoyed reading the thread as much as I enjoyed writing it! Go follow the goats @SplattyDaddyVGC & @PengyTwitch! Congrats again on the epic cook!
@AndyBakesYT @SplattyDaddyVGC @PengyTwitch real ball knowers (vijay sood fans) already knew how good scyther is. still shocked to see it win a regional tho, I gave up after I missed one too many dual wing beats
@peakedin2009 @SplattyDaddyVGC @PengyTwitch Me when I lost an MSS to Vijay in Finals last year despite living over 1000+ miles away from him 😂
Now wait a damn minute
