A majority of Americans today (60% per latest Q poll) oppose more arms to Israel because of the horrors they have watched Israel carry out with them over the last few years but most Americans have no clue just how much our government is handing Israel when it comes to weapons.

Some people may know that Israel has routinely receive nearly $ 4 Billion a year in US taxpayer dollars for weapons through the US's Foreign Military Financing program but few understand how this really works. When you do, it is so much worse than you imagined.

The SINGLE biggest recipient of US Foreign Military Financing is Israel. That means, more than any other country, Israel gets a hand out from US tax payers to use for weapons. We give them our money so they can buy weapons, this means they spend much less of their own tax money.

Because of this, US taxpayers in Alabama, Massachusetts, Oregon and Kentucky are paying for Shlomo in Petah Tikvah to be able to get the very kind of subsidized health care and education that Americans are denied.

Because US tax payers offset Israel's defense spending to the tune of billions a year, Israelis don't have to chose between constant war (which ends up dragging the US into even more war and expense) and social welfare spending.

Meanwhile, in the land of the free, war on terror spending has led to massive American debt and our politicians are constantly talking about cutting social security and Medicare because of it.

But it is also so much worse than this. The 2nd biggest recipient in US Foreign Military Financing is Egypt, which the US basically bribes into maintaining peace with Israel. Together, these two make up more than half the FMF budget, which is all geared toward Israeli security.

If only that was bad enough, but it's not. The FMF program is supposed to work around the principle that US tax money should be spent in the US, so if we give another country this money, they have to use it to buy US weapons from US manufacturers.

But Congress, which is supposed to represent the US taxpayer, created a legal exception to this for one country. Yup, Israel. For years, Israel has been the only country in the world that has been allowed to use FMF money in its own military industry.

That means the US tax payer has been funding the Israeli military industry to the tune of $10s of billions over the years. This helped turn Israel into one of the biggest per capita arms exporters in the world and at times competing with US firms for contracts around the globe!

You'd think, given this, they would stop taking US money, but nope they continue ripping off the US tax payer. And it gets worse.

Congress, which I note again, is supposed to represent the US taxpayer, made another exception for Israel. FMF recipients are supposed to receive payouts in increments over the year. But one country gets an exception to that - Israel.

Instead of getting a disbursement when it puts in orders for weapons, Israel is the only country which gets all its annual allotment in a lump sum up front, which they place in an interest bearing account in the US, to generate even more money for weapons over time.

Most Americans are already appalled by what Israel is doing with its genocidal war machine and they don't want more US weapons being sent there but they would be even more outraged if they had a clue as to how much they are getting hosed by Israel in the process.
