The Trump administration's new $100,000 fee for H-1B visas only applies to new applicants, a White House official said. w/ @Haleaziz More details on the new policy here: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/0...
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz The text of the proclamation does not support that claim. Per the proclamation, it applies to any H-1B worker entering the US starting 12:01am ET on 9/21, with no exceptions for workers who already have approved petitions and/or valid visas before that date.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz This feels like another attack on immigrants. The H-1B program was designed to fill skills gaps, and this fee only makes it harder for people to come here and contribute to the economy.
@tylerpager @cindygallop @Haleaziz There are plenty of examples of the H-1B visas being abused. This is probably not the solution to address it, yet no company is going pay it unless they really need the skill. And only companies with deep pockets can afford to.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz NOWHERE in this piece does it explain where Trump gets legal authority to impose these fees. (he doesn't) That's a journalism 101 failure. EOs are not law. Trump is not a King. but you and your colleagues have a default position to assume Trump can do whatever he wants.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Yes. It only applies to new applicants but this also does nothing when it comes to just hiring the same talent remotely. Companies can still hire scientists, engineers, researchers, etc., remotely and not have to pay any of the fees.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Will @elonmusk have been able to come to America if this new $100,000 fee was in place back then? Which other top US business man or engineers would not have been able to come to America if this new rule was in place since 1970? @grok
@tylerpager @Haleaziz Good luck getting doctors, tech workers etc…there aren’t Americans lining up for those jobs.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz So, the $100,000 fee is just for the *new* hopefuls. Guess the existing H-1B holders just got a rather pricey grandfather clause.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz Yet that is not on the proclamation unlike previous bans.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz Any reason document Trump signed doesn’t say that?
@tylerpager @Haleaziz I bet the devil is in the details. Trump the con man previously stated that he wanted to bring millions of "H1 BS" workers from India.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz If only there was a system to enter the country legally?
@tylerpager @Haleaziz As if we don't have a specialized field shortage already.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz but that's nitpicking... a bit like going after the "illegal" nanny who is living with her sister, a "legal" cook housekeeper who has brought her over to help... once the Government attacks, both will leave...
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Where do I collect my 100 Grand? 🎉
@tylerpager @Haleaziz What if someone out of the country in approved h1b?
@tylerpager @ReichlinMelnick @Haleaziz WINNING
@tylerpager @Haleaziz It was about time.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz Is it correct @grok that Trump administration's new $100,000 Fee for H-1B visas applies to new applicants only?
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz The fat orange clown hates Americans.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Put me in coach
@tylerpager @Haleaziz What is that
@tylerpager @Haleaziz @RealPNavarro needs to be fired if this H1B fiasco fails. @realDonaldTrump Economy is going to crash @elonmusk @WhiteHouse @SecRubio @SecScottBessent @sabeer @howardlutnick #h1bvisas #H1BReform
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz No country's foreign policy should be unilateral. May be such unilateral policies could force other countries to unite & consider trading in a new currency. But currently, India's foreign policy is the best in the world, because India believes that the whole world is one family.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz That's illegal And Against The Law!
@tylerpager @Haleaziz @grok summarize this article.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Deport the earlier ones
@tylerpager @ReichlinMelnick @Haleaziz As if that makes it any better.
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Idiot
@tylerpager @Haleaziz @grok the whole H1B visa issue will be temporary or will get continuous even after 6 years
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz Okay sir 😸😁
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz United state Supreme Court is beyond corrupt!
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz But when the visa expires the employer will have to choose if the employee is worth keeping for 100k per year to renew
@tylerpager @nytimes @Haleaziz I’m sorry, but we have a fool for president.
@tylerpager @Haleaziz Nope, an attack on invaders
