gojo who was born mute due to a binding vow his mother made and uses sign language to speak but no one in his clan bothered to learn jsl. in comes geto, a cursed spirit manipulator, who has a curse that can interpret what gojo says... but is that enough for gojo?
they grown incredibly close but frustration builds when they argue over something rather serious and getos curse cant interpret the feeling behind his words well enough for geto. they cant understand each other, and gojo cant take having to wait for the curse to translate...
he ends up crying out of frustration, something he has never done in his entire life. but this is about his feelings for geto, he cant handle being misunderstood. geto is shocked, but realises how much it means to gojo to be known... to have his language, his culture, be known.
"i thought it was us two," gojo signs, and he signs fast. he cant be bothered waiting for the curse to finish speaking. "i thought you'd understand my feelings by now. i cant keep this up, having to live in two worlds and you misunderstand me in both!" geto tries to understand.
he recognises few words that gojo signs, but overall, he cant put it together enough to understand. and he realises his mistake. all this time preaching that they were the same, the strongest together... equals. despite gojo bringing himself to his world, he couldnt go to gojos
gojo storms off, leaving geto with his tears in his throat. how could he make gojo feel so helpless, or like he didnt understand his feelings. did he always feel like this? geto decides to educate himself. it takes time, and he's quite awkward, but he manages.
he approaches gojo later without his curse and it confuses gojo who types on his phone. "bring the curse out if you want to speak." geto breathes in. he braces himself for looking stupid. then he starts signing. "let's speak like this from now on." gojo is completely quiet.
"im sorry, satoru," geto signs. then he speaks. "im sorry it took me so long." he signs out each syllable of gojos name, who grimaces. "you're clumsy," gojo signs. "but you're the first person to speak back to me in my language." geto smiles as he understood what gojo signed.
"i might not be able to sign back as fast or as good..." geto says then. "but i'll understand you. you wont have to worry anymore... or feel like there's any differences between us." gojos smile after that is worth the weeks of effort he put into learning jsl. "we are, suguru."
"are what?" geto asks, raising a brow. "we are different," gojo signs. "before, you saw past our differences and it became a problem. but now you dont... now you recognise that we are different and i have different needs to yours, right? it's about accommodation."
geto squints. "what?" gojo smiles and types the word on his phone. "oh... okay," he says, feeling a little bad for not knowing... but then again, he IS new and he's shocked he even got any of what gojo just signed. "i get it... i just dont want you to feel bad."
"i've never been happier," gojo signs. "i can speak to you without feeling like..." geto frowns when gojo stops. "satoru?" "like i dont belong with you," he resumes rather reluctantly. "i was fine with everyone else misunderstanding me... everyone but you, suguru."
"really?" geto asks, feeling his throat tighten. he swallows thickly when he realises that gojos eyes are red. "dont cry." he signs that part, which makes gojo laugh. "remember what you said last time?" "what?" gojo asks. "that it's frustrating because you love me."
gojo doesnt look embarrassed, but he does look a little stiff. "well," geto says, then sighs as he begins signing, "i love you, too... and for me it's more." "more?" gojo frowns. "more?!" "more than friends." gojo laughs and his laughs come out in little inaudible breaths.
it's the most wonderful sound to geto. it's like how he imagines an angel cry sounds. but he digresses... he just got laughed at for confessing. "you're an ass," geto mutters. "at least reject me like a normal person." "dont wanna," gojo signs, then sticks his tongue out.
"why?!" geto asks, frustrated. "why? gonna stop learning my language?" gojo asks, grinning from ear to ear. getos frown deepens. "relax... i love you the same way." "love?" geto signs. "real love?" "real love. romantic stuff. i love you." geto laughs and signs. "i love you."
