4/ many blobs aren't full, resulting in 2/3 of blobspace being occupied by Base and World

5/ current used blobspace % 42% Base 25% World 8% Arbitrum 4% OP Mainnet 3% Soneium 3% Scroll 2% Unichain 2% Shape 2% Lighter 1% Ink

6/ L2s currently account for $200k/week worth of mainnet fees, submission fees are worth monitoring now that we're back at congestion

7/ we just had the first base fee spike since pectra but we'll need a more sustained saturation to head into blob price discovery and non-negligible fees

8/ many chains post blobs inconsistently due to usage spikes, which makes blobspace usage forecasting tough here are some examples with recent data

9/ validators now need > 70 GB of space to store blobs (1200 GB and counting if unpruned)

10/ blobs are made up of compressed data, that compression ratio varies across chains but most remain < 25% each stack has it's own compression algo but generally the more diverse the chain's usage is, the harder it is for it to reach higher compression ratios

11/ > 10% of blobs aren't full, those mostly come from smaller rollups posting more regularly than the time it takes them to fill blobs's 128KB here's an interesting paper showing those could save > 85% of posting costs by implementing blob sharing: http://arxiv.org/abs/2410.0411...

12/ blobs have also created some MEV inefficiencies with ~30% of all blob-containing blocks affected more on this: http://arxiv.org/abs/2411.0389...
