approximately three hundred of you have sent me this and you know what? Sure. I’ve got time today. Put 40 bulbs of garlic in my pasta, coming right up

I don’t actually currently have forty bulbs of garlic in my house, nor do I have rigatoni, so first imma head to the shop, brb

If you are new here, this is the game: I make a recipe exactly according to the recipe, except for every clove of garlic, I use an entire bulb.

okay okay sorry I am home alone with both kids today so when I said I had time, I was kinda lying. but on the plus side, I get to surprise my husband with dinner when he gets home from the city

ALLONS-Y

I am in the kitchen so she is in the kitchen Let’s see how long that lasts

yes I know garlic is toxic to dogs; she will not be getting any. Peeling this all is gonna take a minute so! Time to place your clove bets: reply to this with the number of cloves you think are in forty bulbs. I’ll count them as they go in

peeling step one: depaper and separate. Put several bulbs in a large bowl. Put other slightly smaller bowl on top and upside down. Shake. This is a great job for a three year old. If your garlic is old and dry, this will also peel some amount of it.

peeling step two: boiling water, one minute, then top them with a paring knife and the paper will slide off

I’m gonna square with you all real quick: this is the first time I’ve tried this since either kid was mobile and I honestly might have to wait for daddy to get home and be on kid duty before I can finish this. no babyproofing in the world could withstand my kids right now

should I tell him

okay I am about halfway through peeling and I am gonna have to pause here and give my kids some actual supper (Yes I know you can buy large bags of prepeeled garlic but that would defeat the point of the game, which is to use bulbs)

I don’t think the 3 year old actually knows any words like “stinky” or “smelly” yet because he’s wrinkling his nose and saying “the air is hot” it is like fifteen degrees outside and the window is open

Himself is home! He just walked in the door and started laughing

because I have never learned a single lesson in my entire goddamned life, I did not take my contact lens out before starting this rip my eyeballs later

Himself finished feeding the kids and getting them ready for bed and I finished peeling the garlic! Here is forty heads of garlic in a pot. It really doesn’t look like that much idk

I am going to have to pause here again to go get the baby to sleep but once I’m back it’s go time! Here is the rest of the recipe if you’re following along at home

before any of y’all start, the fourth? time I did this, the first time while breastfeeding, I did actually go to the effort of asking a doctor if this was breastfeeding safe. It’s fine. Settle back down

I really didn’t think it was smelling that strongly but having just spent half an hour upstairs and then come back down, lmao

I am not actually sure this is going to be enough oil! Might have to add a bit to keep the garlic from burning, we’ll see

Image in tweet by madeline odent

Okay yeah I’m adding another quarter cup just to prevent burning. I’ll also adjust various cooking times accordingly (if you’re new here, I promise I am actually a somewhat not bad cook in normal scenarios)

oh fuck me I forgot to put the extractor hood on lmao whoooooooooops the dog has taken herself outside

the dog is fine she just wanted to bark Right. How big of a can of crushed tomatoes do we think they’re referring to. They do not specify

these are coming on nicely so I’m starting the pasta now.

the tomato consensus seems to be that American standard for tomato cans is 28 freedom oz so I will use two metric tins (800g)

the nice thing about this is the lid is on for most of the cooking so the smell is contained and then I open it to stir and it’s a blast to the sinuses, but like, it is beginning to tamp down a bit as it cooks

I’m gonna give that a few more minutes before adding the tomatoes but they are beginning to smash themselves nicely as I stir

for the record I do not live in Dublin and my surname is French not Irish, the robots are not winning the war here

tomatoes are in! And with all due respect, what is the actual point of a *quarter* teaspoon of chilli flakes. Like. Why

honestly I disagree with measuring spices in general, measuring is for baking, not cooking, but I said I would follow the recipe so here we are but it looks so pitiful

okay!! Most of the garlic is now smashed but a few whole cloves remain; I have tasted and seasoned and honestly, the garlic has mellowed out, as it does when cooked. But (imo) what the recipe lacked even on paper is a bit of sweet, and so I’ve cheated and added a glug of balsamic

@oldenoughtosay This is top tier trolling.
