Silent Hill f on PC has major crashing problems on GeForce 5090s. You may have read that to "fix" it you need to reinstall your GPU driver ... every time the game crashes. Or reboot your PC. Kinda sucks. I found another solution that's much easier and way faster ...
Run this command at an elevated command prompt: dxcap -forcetdr This forces a GPU Timeout Detection and Recovery event. This can also happen if a shader gets stuck in an infinite loop (for example).
So this basically reboots the GPU driver. Anything in VRAM gets booted out and all apps have to reinitialize everything with respect to their use of the GPU.
... Which is also what happens, in a different way of course, when your reinstall the GPU driver or reboot your whole PC. Hmm! I'm pretty sure this points to something seriously broken in NVIDIA's GeForce 5000 series drivers. It really doesn't seem to be the game's fault, i.o.w.

@rickbrewPDN Doesn't reinstalling drivers just force recompiling of the shaders?
@michal_jares No; from the system and application's point of view, the GPU is actually "removed" and then "installed" during driver installation. The shader cache is cleared as well, of course, but that's more of a side effect.
@rickbrewPDN Does resetting the driver with "Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B" work also possibly?
@yzonker No. That's more like unplugging your monitor and plugging it back in. A TDR is a more urgent event and is more akin to physically removing the GPU and plugging it back in.
@rickbrewPDN They really released silent hill 2 last year and learned nothing from it. I stopped playing both of those games because the stuttering really took me out of the experience.

@rickbrewPDN For all the 5090 problems I have (i am never buying a nvidia gpu again, dont give a shit how bad amd is, im done with high-end pc gaming) ive never once had a crash. Just shit performance in UE5 games. I have a 5090 tuf.
