/Final thread on Part 2 of our investigation with @Tracking_Power into Zionism at Celtic Park. https://www.ukcolumn.org/artic... We follow on from the departure of Ian Livingston, and explore fan resistance in solidarity with Palestine today. š§µā¬ļø
/Our investigation has found that Zionist influence did not leave @CelticFC with Ian Livingstonās departure. It has remained firmly in place via his sister-in-law, Nicola Livingston, Chair of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council (GJRC).
/The GJRC is āthe oldest body of its kind in Britainā, a lobbying group with a history of anti-Palestinian ācivic engagementā. It has met with @CelticFC on several occasions to complain about the Green Brigade while Ian Livingstonās sister-in-law Nicola Livingston has been Chair
/Other members of the Livingston family - such as Ian Livingston's nephew, Marc, (the son of Nicola) have publicly complained about the apparent exclusionary nature of the Green Brigade's banners.
/On 25 Oct 2023, a day after Israeli attacks on Gaza had killed 704 people,@CelticFC took drastic measures to try to pacify fans. It released a statement, appealing to fans to not bring Palestinian flags to its game v. AtlƩtico Madrid. This was a request fans famously defied
/In its Oct 2023 statement @CelticFC said it had donated to the Red Cross. In Celticās annual report, this was linked to āthe crisis in Gazaā, but the ICRC makes it clear all funds go to both Israel and Palestine. In other words, this money is supporting the Zionist entity
/@CelticFCās 2023 decision to donate to the Red Cross came from the Scottish Professional Football League. On the Board of the SPFL Trust (the charity arm of the SPFL) was Charles Barnett, maintaining a position of power over Celtic since he ācut tiesā with it in 2016
/Zionist Charles Barnett's role as Treasurer of SPFL Trust is one you may expect to require neutrality - yet he was listed on the Celtic Foundation sporting dinner committee in 2018 and presented for the Celtic Foundation as recently as 2022 with @CelticFC ex-captain Tom Boyd.
/In 2025, while Charles Barnett was on the SPFL Trust, the SPFL introduced collective punishments for fan misconduct. Two weeks later, the Green Brigade and kids were kettled during the āShow Israel the Red Cardā campaign - a campaign we asked them to help extend to stadiums.
/When the Green Brigade was kettled in 2025, red card protests against Israel had already occurred in 30+ countries. Just days later, the SPFL expanded its āUnacceptable Conductā rules, requiring clubs to monitor and report āhate speechā and discriminatory banners.
/Given his unchallenged politics at the top of Scottish football, as well as ā we reveal ā his familial links with the police, one might reasonably suspect Charles Barnett had a hand in the 'policing' of the Green Brigade during the Show Israel the Red Card campaign
/Evidently, the @CelticFC board is under increasing pressure over its stance on Palestine. The Club is, perhaps unsurprisingly, widely believed to follow a policy of non-engagement when approached about Palestine-related matters, even by Palestinians.
/At @CelticFCās 2024 AGM, a fan asked why the Board ignored letters from Lajee Celtic, including reports that the IOF had recently attacked a Celtic Supportersā Club in Khan Younis. The Board privately refused to even meet with Lajee Celtic representatives just a week later.
/Today, as the world confronts Israelās genocide ā now declared apartheid by the ICJ ā the @CelticFC Board stands at a crossroads. Its fans have transformed Celtic into a global symbol of Palestinian solidarity. But inside the boardroom, lies another story.
/@CelticFCās Zionist financial experts may have played a role in rescuing Celtic in 1994, and engineering its rise as āthe best run Clubā in the UK, but at what cost to Palestinians, at what cost to its reputation, and at what cost now to the Boardās relationship with its fans?
/As Israelās genocide in Palestine continues, the question now is will the @CelticFC board acknowledge the clubās complicity, take full responsibility for failures, and make full reparations - financial and otherwise - to Palestinians?
