@bejeweledpaige It absolutely is inherently conservative. It tries to preserve an obsolete tradition which enforces monogamy and strips freedom of choice from both men and women. Nothing progressive about it.

@bejeweledpaige I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that getting married and having children requires a lot of personal responsibility and if we’re being honest, personal responsibility isn’t heavily highlighted in leftist circles as much as conservative circles.

@bejeweledpaige What’s messed up is that in the last 25 years it’s become somehow embarrassing for young women to say they want to have children and we’ve all been lied to that you can put it off til whenever without issue (coming from someone who had kids late)

@bejeweledpaige I have a theory that part of it is that we were fed a horrifying narrative about teen pregnancy and how we “better not get pregnant” or how having a child w/o financial stability was irresponsible and most of us are not financially stable.

@bejeweledpaige In my opinion, the left has stopped talking about the collective problems of the working class (accessing housing, starting a family…) and has shifted its focus to individual identities. The right has appropriated the discourse around it which is why it sounds conservative to us
