This is not quite effigy politics, but something worse. In effigy politics, a real person or institution is dominated/humiliated/destroyed as a stand-in for something broader. The far-right obsession with advertising is, on the other hand, removed from reality altogether.
It really freaks me out.
I worry that social media and generative AI necessarily trend towards fascism for this reason—we keep getting “better” at creating dreams for people to sink into, ever more lucid, ever more tailored to their exact taste. And consuming more and more of their “waking” hours
@hecubian_devil "The fascist imaginary"
@chunknixon Yes?
@hecubian_devil There really is no reasonably dealing with people who want to deport and/or kill every non white person so their country looks like a fucking 1980s commercial.
@pt_mcloughlin And yet they’re here, with us, in alarming number. What do we do?
@hecubian_devil This is also probably why AI is so popular with these people. It won't contradict them. It will give them the fantasy that everything was better in the past.
@Ryan_Genealogy Yeah, there’s absolutely a connection here. AI has much more in common with advertising than it does with art; and as it gets “better” it gives them something closer to perfect, totalitarian control over their consumer dreamscape
@hecubian_devil Baudrillard etc etc etc
@idshsnsnsn I gotta get around to reading him one of these days lol
@hecubian_devil @panentheosis Nice rant, but you neglect to recognize the degree of irony found in the posts, both in the absurd number of people that would have to disappear, and in the use of old corny ads. This is intentional. These posts are meant to be funny. Believe me, the American right reads old
@hecubian_devil You do not get it because you believe in a vision of the world that is a fantasy that can never work, contrary to our vision of the world, which we had, has worked, and we simply want back.
@hecubian_devil They are evil retards who make violent love to their tiny peckers with fat, clammy hands Take it easy on them
@hecubian_devil it freaks me out too... and i can't help but see how their non-reality starts with their religion. it's pretty clear they've gotten to a place where the stuff that is not them is some type of spiritual enemy. and that makes it so there can't be coexistence anymore.
@hecubian_devil Most tribes throughout history have killed for a dream. It’s not that deep. Before, a stirring speech might sell; now ads and edits do it
@hecubian_devil On the contrary, (some) advertising during this period reached the pinnacle of film arts, as Kubrick himself recognized https://www.reddit.com/r/blank...
@hecubian_devil This was super well-put. What IMO is going on is that advertising serves as the select medium because of *what it reveals about normative preference*, its ability to demonstrate the heuristical moral rules and values that denote a society’s collective aspirational striving.
@hecubian_devil This sounds like a coded incitement to violence I don't think you mean it that way but just saying. Yes they are detached from reality and the way to fix that is to elect a leader who has something real to offer instead of the old empty words that led to this fantasy.
@hecubian_devil You think the 1980s are fascism. You are the delusional one. Idealization is common of all ideologies. You idealize your nonsense constantly. You frame yourself as a universal good & fantasize all that disagree with you as evil fascists who wish to kill you so you can justify-
@hecubian_devil "They want a dream, and they’re violently angry at anyone who might disturb their sleep." Uh, the Left is the side that's shooting political commentators/brawling with government officials in the street. The violence in which people are *actually* harmed comes from the Left.
@hecubian_devil This is not so far removed from your own state of affairs. Different dream, different loves, same thing except in reality it means letting child murderers off the hook and destroying people's right to their property.
@hecubian_devil @LatAmRedux I’m socially conservative borderline far right on many issues to know this is satanic and you are completely right. Read Spengler, he gives them the word of the hour to describe them. Fellaheen.
@hecubian_devil Hm. But is dreaming all wrong? Perhaps its just that unimaginative peoples minds are infested with advertisement more easily. Perhaps its about offering different, better dreams.
@hecubian_devil You’re driving toward my answer for the ubiquitous question “why aren’t the dems fighting hard enough?”: you can’t. You simply can’t fight against phantoms. You cannot beat what isnt even real.
@hecubian_devil Saddest deluge of libshit projection and cope I have seen today. SAD.
@hecubian_devil You don't do anything with "these people", YOU want others to do the killing for you. Give it a break already Marxist clown.
@hecubian_devil Maybe we should tell them that Jewish people had a role in the advertising agencies that created these ads. Might demotivate them from these aesthetics and make their propaganda useless Worth a shot maybe lol
@hecubian_devil Fascism isn't a fantasy, and to Fascism, there is no final order, just the perpetual self-affirmation of the nation’s spirit, a unity always in motion, not a completed utopia. No abstract perfection, no fantasy world, no utopia waiting to be achieved.
@hecubian_devil Calling everything people actually enjoy goyslop while jerking off to sears catalogues from the 60s and saying brown people took this from you
@hecubian_devil A book that might help you understand this better and how we got here is Debord's Society of the Spectacle. His core thesis is that lived experience has been replaced by representation, and that images (commodities), and the production of them, dominate human society
@hecubian_devil You think men can become women. You were never attached to reality in the first place
