Genuinely what this industry needs is not more mathematically produced, psychologically trained gameplay loops, rather more expressions of worlds that folks are engaged with, or want to engage with. AI has its place as a tool, but we have all the tools in the world and they

Idk why nobody ever talks about this but before the collapse of retail it was retail itself that set the rules: quality (lest buyback), price, availability, etc. When it crashed the sensible default would be to enjoy cutting out the middleman and connecting directly with

Like all growing markets, cloud, sub etc it will be a matter of time before there are roots. There will be roots. But not necessarily in the direction the industry as it currently stands needs to heal from the rug of retail being pulled beneath its feet. We need more human-human

There simply is no resonance without mutual respect. There is no mutual respect without respect for craft. There is no craft without the human touch; the relative skill issue, or 'the exhibition of otherness.' To turn games into digital, emotionless content is to abandon all

@Cromwelp I'd argue the industry does need this. They need to experience failure from attempting to fully generate something that is art, especially coming from people who are not artists. Humans learn from failure, AI learns from what it's trained on.

@AeroSpaceShark I get what you're saying but this industry is collectively humbled like a drunk on a mechanical bull quarterly, infinitely. They just don't show it or talk about it. PR aside, naw.

@Cromwelp Putting aside the complete lack of soul or human expression that game will have, there's slim chance that it will run well if it's completely ai generated none of the generative tools seem to make optimised assets.

@Cromwelp AI cannot be used to replace humans when it comes to making gameplay loops. What AI does is aggregate human knowledge over the internet and produce a generic sum-of-all-parts outcome. Humans also look at what's come before but give it their unique flavour. If the day comes that

@Cromwelp Reminded me of this piece of dialogue from Disco Elysium. AI can never create art, because it has nothing to express. It does not want to invoke thoughts and emotions in other people. It can only do statistical averages of what's already done.

@Cromwelp "...It was mathematics--not nuclear weapons, computers, biological warfare or our climate Armageddon--which was changing our world to the point where, in a couple of decades at most, we would simply not be able to grasp what being human really meant."

@Cromwelp The entire concept of AI in video games is so dirty to me. It shouldn’t exist. Games should be a form of creative expression, real emotion, depth, detail, quality, passion. We’ve already got enough soulless slop as it is.

@Cromwelp @DBakaba This is not gonna be a thoughtfully psychologically engineered brainrotting shit, but a naturally born brainrot shitshow made of a pile of random shitty mechanics, "very human" ergonomics and the optimization of a car running on triangles instead of wheels.

@Cromwelp Honestly, who cares at this point what this shithead says? Even if his studio releases an AI-generated game, it won't be the first - there are several ones available already. Adoption will be miniscule and he'll forget about it as he moves to his next target.

@Cromwelp Can't wait for all the lawsuits about clearly stolen assets and writing etc. Because these games are going to be trained on games for which people and developers teams have worked their arses off. If it's possible to sue, that is.

@Cromwelp That lad thinks everything he's selling is two years away. IMO publishers wanted retailers dead due to second hand market eating into sales on new releases especially if the game wasn't great. No media, locks the product to sales on their terms. 8/16bit were the best of times!

@Cromwelp What makes a good game is a passionate development team with a great game idea and enough money to realize its vision. Anything put in that isn't that, makes it worse.

@Cromwelp AI will make a better game than BG3 one day. The sooner we accept that reality the sooner we can deal with its ramifications.

@Cromwelp AI needs to stay far away from the creative side of things. Let it take care of the tedious background stuff, but keep the soul alive and gaming.

@Cromwelp Yes, and, I thought the guy's goal was Mars or something, not AI games and movies.

@Cromwelp Honestly I want another BG3 or Expedition 33 like game. But those are incredibly different to make.

@Cromwelp yeah and he will land on mars last year

@Cromwelp absolutely zero chance i buy an ai generated game. ain't no fuckin way.

@Cromwelp that man will do literally anything other than working on tesla

@Cromwelp Agreed. It NEEDS to flop or else it’s going to be the main focus in the industry to come.

@Cromwelp I can proudly say that LUCID is my heart on my sleeve, and made with soul. 🌸 https://x.com/_theMatteBlack/s...
