Yesterday in clinic our 153rd case of DRUG FREE T2 Diabetes REMISSION!! In this case he bought himself a continuous glucose monitor and so learned super fast how to avoid the foods that put blood sugar up Should I be prescribing these ?? @parthaskar @DiabetesUK
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Dr. Unwin, your 153rd case is inspiring and shows the benefits of patient-led monitoring. Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) can indeed provide real-time insights that empower patients to make informed dietary choices. Before considering prescribing CGMs more broadly, perhaps
@sciqst @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise For me itโs about assessment of motivation and risk. Newly diagnosed T2D tend to be very interested, at the other end people who may have to go on insulin are also very motivated
@lowcarbGP @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise My view? Itโs about time @NICEComms reviewed this area and told us all about whether itโs cost effective or not.
@parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise @NICEComms Thank you Partha I agree It seems unfair that we are supposed to wait until people are on insulin to be given this help.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Dr. In clinical practice how do you use it? Ask the patient to stay in their own diet the first 7 days and then start changing the next 7 days of CGM?
@BeckerQuintana @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Just a couple of days on their old diet is all it takes
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise The medical orthodoxy is about to get crushed by the ubiquity of the CGM.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise @Dr David Unwin CGM can also be a powerful behaviour change device. NHS has to employ more behavioural change devices and coaches to help people make the necessary behaviour changes. Until that time, our drugs bill will continue and iatrogenic burden will continue to increase.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise I am a GP and have reduced my HbA1c from 96 to 44 purely with diet control .However, I believe I have only achieved this by using a Freestyle LibreLink which I used continuously for six months. I would recommend this to anybody who is determined to control their own DM.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Apparently they are available on NHS? I as prediabetic would like to purchase one but I am confused between finger pricking machines or continuous monitoring by a watch. Please any advice on makes/model
@AngelaG83461886 @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Either Freestyle Libre or Lingo Get the App for your phone buy the sensor for your arm and learn what food puts your blood sugar up
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise I have heard the assertion that the same foods produce very different glucose spikes in different people. Is that true?
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Thatโs amazing, seeing how foods affect blood sugar in real time makes such a difference. Tools like glucose monitors can really help people learn what works for their body.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise .Best investment I have made in my own health (apart from exercise). The data from during the night was so revealing as my T2 is driven by hormone imbalance. Reaction to foods changes over time so monitoring is essential. I look forward to continuous ketone monitors.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Yes! That is what I did, until then I was guessing
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise I prefer the simple stick & meter. Test 3-4x a day. Itโs more impt for me to relearn & โfeelโ my natural hunger/satiety cues than rely on tech unless absolutely necessary. Just personal minimalist preference.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise It should be made mainstream and with volume production the prices can come down.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise What is crazy i know a lot of Type 2 diabetics who are told they don't need to test their blood sugar levels. It makes no sense to me.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise YES! We all should have affordable access to these devices!
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise CGM for 2 months taught me that low carb was the way to improved metabolic health.
@lowcarbGP @parthaskar @DiabetesUK @rcgp @drchatterjeeuk @hormonedietdoc @KenDBerryMD @drjasonfung @ExpressGilo @ClareWilsonMed @lowcarb_aus @bigfatsurprise Congratulations, what an achievement ๐
@lowcarbGP It seems the Libre free trial is paused at the moment but there is one for Dexcom. https://www.dexcom.com/en-GB/d...
