I don’t have much faith the manager is the right guy to lead them and they need a whole new bullpen. They need to cut down the walks. And they need to play better fundamentally. But it won’t matter if you don’t have an above average SS. The position is too important. 2/

I defended Volpe for two years because I think you have to give young players a few years to develop. We’re at the end of year three and he is a bad MLB’er. Three years as a starter is a big sample. He hasn’t shown to be the guy. It’s a huge priority now. 3/

We can talk about Tucker, Bellinger, Cole coming back, Jasson, Jones, etc. They have to come to the realization that their plan at short has not worked. And my doubt comes from believing the team probably disagrees strongly with me. They’ll point to the injury. 4/

I thought this team was really talented. I wouldn’t debate it with anyone. Yes, the pitching didn’t show up in the series but over the course of the season the poor SS play cost them a division. We focus on Devin, rightfully so, but it was also Volpe. He killed them. 5/

At some point, you have to acknowledge a clear problem and address it. They would have to win in spite of him. They’re not fundamentally sound enough to do that. And yes, they have other real issues but this is the biggest one.

@pamsson Keep going, that is not the only spot and no one is disagreeing. We all have been waiting for this season to end because it was going to take a miracle to win it all anyway. The makeup of this roster/coaches needs serious evaluation.

@pamsson They have to determine what they have in Lombard. That precludes another long-term replacement for Volpe at the moment.

@pamsson Michael Kay said on the YES postgame show that since #Volpe had such a horrible yr, that the Yankees likely will look to have Caballero and Volpe competing for SS position in spring training. Go figure. Rather than go get a REAL SS. period. Unbelievable.
