@FFmpeg We all have our own battles to fight. HypeHype has been buying most of my working hours in the past 3 years. Been rewriting their rendering stack. New stack is up to 3x faster and has less than half code.
@SebAaltonen Sorry to hear that a project developed by volunteers doesn't meet the specific needs of your business
@FFmpeg I wasn't directly commenting on FFmpeg. I was just venting on video compression codecs in general. They have become complex big libraries, are slow to compile and often bring lots of dependencies with them.
@FFmpeg I would prefer more minimalistic libraries with less dependencies. Take it as a feedback.
@SebAaltonen We have no mandatory dependencies apart from a C compiler and (optionally) an assembler. Please let us know how we can be more "minimalistic"
@FFmpeg That's nice! Then don't take the rant personally. Many other libraries bring a lot of stuff with them.
@SebAaltonen Which video codec libraries are you referring to? You say compile times are long, which implies an open-source library.
@FFmpeg Good example: https://github.com/luctrudeau/...
@SebAaltonen A state of the art video codec in 2025 is going to be complex, who knew. A lot of dependencies here /s
@FFmpeg @SebAaltonen Requring Perl for building your software project in 2025 is a joke, tbqh. This screenshot is not the dunk you think it is.
