@tomhfh I’ve done this journey a few times when I lived in Cambridge and flew from Luton Airport. The solution is to get the train to Hitchin, then a taxi from Hitchin to Luton.

@tomhfh I know we should be a ashamed. We waste so much money on our public transport with little results to show. I travelled across Italy on trains. Its quick and affordable. Naples to Rome by train...225 Km. Prime Minister if you are paying attention...wake up @Keir_Starmer

@tomhfh Blame the Tories. They accepted Lord Beechings report and closed the lines that crossed the country. Since then, no government has paid to replace a crossrail system. The journey is similar if you want to go from Kettering to Northampton. 20 miles direct, 100 miles by rail

@tomhfh Tbf - That may be because there are literally zero persons in the country that want to go from Cambridge to Luton. Even Tommy Robinson would probably squeeze in an overseas holiday to break it up.

@tomhfh x5 express coach from Cambridge to Bedford, then short hop on train to Luton. But understandable that nobody from Cambridge area would ever want to go to Luton cesspit, so no market!

@tomhfh Try going from Catford to Catford Bridge by rail. The stations are 93 meters apart and you can't buy a ticket for the journey but you can use an Oyster card. The trip will take around 45 minutes to complete and it involves two changes. For most people it's easier to walk.

@tomhfh When the EastWestRail is completed it will be far quicker. Cambridge - Bedford - Luton.

@tomhfh Tell me about it. My commute is Cambridge to North London, via Kings X. Adds 1 hr to my journey and is absolutel ridiculous.

@tomhfh I've talked about this sort of thing before - Stevenage to Stansted is a worse one in that area. Government has it in its power to have the airlines make that one less stupid, rather than fighting over Heathrow for 40 years.
