Don’t know who needs to hear this but you can literally sidestep all of your nagging identity issues by just creating a new character U want to be super social? Mentally create “Social (ur name). Identity prompt: this guy is super social+confident+always knows what to say Then
If you’re paying attention, you actually have a different “character” for each person you meet anyway already. Its very slight differences, but nonetheless different versions of you. You’re doing this already, just without it being self-generated. And isn’t that strange?
It’s kinda like realizing you have 150 tools in the toobelt but randomly circling only 15 of them and saying (only these are what I use). Lot of good shit hiding in ur shadow self. U’ve disowned for whatever reason but can go & find. “Playing pretend” does actually let u bring
The takesway from the idea is if you need to do something to get a result, but your mind thinks “but i don’t do that” U have to fix THAT before ull do anything. Is basically step 1 unless u just get pissed & say fuck it (enough energy to disregard the wall - attack mind instead
@retirementkeys Every time I see these self help hacks or whatever I am reminded how insanely happy I am that I have Jesus in my life. Every mental issue instantly solved by giving God the glory amd the weight.
@MattNolen215 Yeah you look super happy in your profile pic. Grats brother.
@retirementkeys That’s a clever approach! It’s amazing how adopting a new mindset can help us break free from limiting beliefs and build confidence. Have you tried this method yourself?
@dustin_zeb Brother i have to block you. I can’t read these fucking ai responses
@retirementkeys Your thread is going viral! #TopUnroll https://threadreaderapp.com/th... 🙏🏼@KMPentagon for 🥇unroll
@retirementkeys It can work, yes, but only temporarily. Plus you have to have enough energy to generate these personas.
@retirementkeys “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”
@retirementkeys this actually works but not how most people think the trick isnt "pretending" to be someone else - its giving yourself permission to act differently most identity issues come from this voice saying "thats not who i am" once you reframe it as "im testing a new mode" your brain
@retirementkeys This is facts. Why do you think rappers have so many nicknames? Lil Wayne, Weezy F baby, Tunechi etc etc. They tap a new persona when trying something new
@retirementkeys Enacting this immediately.
@retirementkeys Prison Mike mode activated
@retirementkeys this is actually one of the most practical takes on identity work i’ve seen. acting your way into belief > waiting to feel ready.
@retirementkeys TL;DR: If you’re stuck in old identity patterns, play pretend. Create a version of you (e.g. “Social You,” “Confident You,” “Business You”) and act like them in real life. Pretending bypasses your mental blocks and lets you access traits already inside you. Eventually, it
@retirementkeys Sometimes the best glow up starts with a new main character
@retirementkeys this actually makes sense but how long did it take before business Grant stopped feeling fake? like when did it click that it was actually you
@retirementkeys not everyone is autistic or what have you
@retirementkeys Best thing I’ve read in ages. And I like the detail. 🤜From🇦🇺
@retirementkeys You really like typing don't you? Could just say, "Fake til you make it," or "cognitive dissonance."
@retirementkeys Very valuable post, thank you, sir
@retirementkeys @grok true?
@retirementkeys Banger
@retirementkeys Can be done. Requires effort but you can be someone that you are not and turn into that person
@retirementkeys Role-playing your ideal self until it sticks. Fake it till you make it is real psychology. Your brain doesn't know the difference. 🧠
@retirementkeys This is brilliant! Thank you!
