The deadlock on the French budget seems impossible to break, here's the creative trick that could solve all. 1st a recap of the problem: - PS said its red lines was that pension reform must be suspended. - LR said its red line is pension reform must not be suspended
- If PS or LR vote no confidence the government falls. - Lecornu promised no 49.3 so budget can't pass on confidence vote: MPs must vote for or against - LR or PS voting against their own red lines is political suicide So there's no solution but snap elections?
I still believe snap elections is the most likely option but i'm more & more convinced the trick Macron Lecornu will try is this one: This was introduced to prevent parliamentary barrage by the opposition: introduce 10000000 amendements making a vote impossible
But French politics are so uspide down these days that the government could completely twist this article and barrage... its own budget in Parliament! Once the 70 days delay is passed, no parliamentary vote is required and the budget can be implemented.
Obv, this would trigger outrage, probably a no confidence vote and the goverment could have to resign. But does it mean that the "caretaker government" can't implement the budget ? That would be up for the top administrative court to decide and would be a fascinating question
@jeuasommenulle Important to point out that LR refused to vote the reform (which had nonetheless long been in its manifesto), and started this whole mess by threatening to vote a motion of no confidence over the budget last year…
