Every second, the Sun ejects 1.5 million tons of material into space at hundreds of miles per second, but Earth's magnetic field protects it from the solar wind. 📽: NASA Goddard

@wonderofscience What would happen if we suddenly lost our magnetic field?

@wonderofscience "IT ALL HAPPENED BY CHANCE". THAT IS THE DEPTH OF STUPIDITY IN THOSE WHO THINK GOD DID NOT CREATE THE UNIVERSE.

@wonderofscience @grok So what happens if the Earth’s magnetic field stopped working?

@wonderofscience They just make up shit nowadays. Can’t believe anything scientists tell us.

@wonderofscience The earth is doomed to be engulfed by the sun as a red giant, eventually. So likely we see our protections decline over the next billions of years.

@wonderofscience And people say there is no God? That all these 'coincidences' are random? It's hard for me to put faith in that.

@wonderofscience It can only do that because the Sun creates 1.5 million tons of material every second from light. 2 photon physics at work.

@wonderofscience Magnetic filed + 8 layers of air spheres that mean the earth spining around itself + sun on a vacuum ?!

@wonderofscience That is true; however, all of the satellites up there act like ice on an airfoil. We need another communications solution other than bouncing off of satellites.

@wonderofscience You mean that, without this magnetic field, I wouldn't be here and have my life? What an astounding thought. Thanks for this simple fact. - Canadian grandma

@wonderofscience What is the percentage of the ejected material the Earth’s magnetic fields protects? Nevertheless, still a perfect performance!

@wonderofscience Solar winds interacting with Earth's atmosphere, is what causes the Northern Lights (or aurora borealis). These charged particles are directed by Earth's magnetic field towards the poles, where they collide with atmospheric gases and emit light.

@wonderofscience Lets build space ships out of that stuff

@wonderofscience I saw the northern lights recently. Thank you God for this bubble of peace we get to live in. Enough Sun for life to thrive. Not so much that life would be annihilated.

@wonderofscience How do you rockets make it through it?

@wonderofscience Luckily only 360 to the 2nd power worth of that material will actually be projected toward us.

@wonderofscience Wait what's that on the top and bottom... that doesn't look like super protected?

@wonderofscience What happens to earths when the out South Atlantic anomaly grows? 🤔

@wonderofscience It does no such thing lol

@wonderofscience @ladybugz443 Magnets, nuclear power, and AI, are the technologies of the next generation of humans

@wonderofscience 1. (1) The image shows: solar wind fluctuations → geomagnetic field fluctuations → crust (negatively charged) fluctuations → LIGO fluctuations; (2) the interplanetary magnetic field fluctuates all the time → crust fluctuates all the time → LIGO fluctuations. Therefore, the

@wonderofscience Thank God for our iron core!

@wonderofscience Magnetic fields are overrated. Our atmosphere does most of the heavy shield lifting. It was only really useful during our early sun's flare era.

@wonderofscience Until it doesn’t. Our magnetic shield is severely weakened.

@wonderofscience The real MVP

@wonderofscience The Sun be like

@wonderofscience Such a wonderful mother 😉

@wonderofscience Dieu nous aime...Tout est bien programme et calcule.

@wonderofscience It is nice to have things put into perspective every now and again.

@wonderofscience Not for long.

@wonderofscience There’s a “fire” that warms our skin by day. That fire 🔥 is burning some 93 million miles (150 million km) away. To put that giant number in perspective, think about this: To drive that distance by car - even speeding along at 100 mph (160 km/hr), 24 hours a day - would take

@wonderofscience God is great!
