In the days of Chandra II, India built its own weapons & ships, was safe enough for foreign randos to roam peaceful in Gangu dehat, didn't have govt officials in pay of Rome, launched military campaigns to Central Asia, & had affordable RE for youth. None of that is true now.

@CyanoProtozoa @bronzeageclerk Gupta period, Bhitargaon(L) and Mahabodhi(R) temples are reported to have true arches by Cunningham He also mentions that they’re ”just like” the arches he saw in 2 other places, “Birdaban” and “Jamui”
@CyanoProtozoa @bronzeageclerk Post Gupta, we have Buddhist monasteries all over the place implementing it Nalanda, Vikramshila, Jagaddala, Udaygiri etc Literature says the method used by Hindus was diff from West, they called it inferior for arches but superior for barrel vaults, like 3rd image
@CyanoProtozoa @bronzeageclerk Bengalis preserved it, Udaygiri is in OR we even see monasteries in Burma with the bengali style true arches and vaults so the knowledge was quite pop with masons all over the place, it wasn’t esoteric structures haven’t survived, and plains arch being brick doesn’t help
