Skills allow you to extend Claude Code in new ways using pre-packaged instructions and code. For example, add the docx skill to let Claude Code create word documents. I think skills make Claude Code even better as a general purpose agent, I'm excited to see how you use them!
To get started add the anthropic marketplace: /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills And then type /plugin to install skills from our skills marketplace, such as docx

@SIGKITTEN yeah we want to make it more intuitive try and think of everything as a plugin, they extend Claude Code we want you not have to think about how each plugin works in detail, in the same way that you probably don't know exactly how any single VScode extension works

@trq212 Skills shine when you use least privilege and pin versions so updates do not break your builds. Chain small skills into tidy pipelines with clear logs, then you can replay and debug fast. Why not add graceful fallbacks so if one skill flakes the agent keeps going?
@trq212 Claude Code is turning into a real agent platform. Skills = the bridge between LLM reasoning and real-world action.
@trq212 Skill partly solve the context issues. But maybe harder to debug when thing go wrong.

@trq212 I feel like Claude Code is getting more and more complex to orchestrate. Skills, plugins, agents… They are all nice features but in a bundle they make me feel like lost in the ocean.
@trq212 I’ve been using ChatGPT to generate business docs in docx with python for a long time, it can do quite well already w/o any prompting, but I bet this could be useful for advanced formatting, etc

@trq212 Sorry. Too much useless stuff here. Skills, markeplaces,mcp, x, y all eating away my 256k - 100k by default context .. At the end we will have like 2k context to work with.. this is useless.
