it turns out the best teachers allow us to learn wayyyy faster than what seems possible not just 10% or 50% faster, but like 10-1000x faster this screenshot is self portraits before/after 5 days it turns out we can also learn “bliss on demand” in a week (@jhanatech)
sooner or later, i think we might have this for baseline suffering reduction / improving baseline wellbeing not just for temporary bliss states, but for improving baseline happiness by 10-1000x (maybe it will take some neuro/biotech to make it learnable in 7 days?? idk)
this is completely empirically possible already, but it has just statistically has taken a few thousand hours (same effort as a hard phd) unless youre lucky but new methods seem to be rly fruitful and take <500 hours (which is only like one college semester of workload!!)
> We’re either in a world where there’s no good tools for radical and reliable positive psychological change if you put a lot of smart effort into it, or we’re living in a world where this is reliably possible. I think we’re in the latter banger https://x.com/nickcammarata/st...
it seems like we’re almost ready to make the tesla for souls nowadays a lot of ppl have gotten lots of suffering reduction in a relatively short timespan from “fetters work”
> it's kind of like always having someone with me to hold space https://x.com/miniulisse/statu...
> I no longer suffer from emotional experience. Dropping fetters four and five using inquiry practice [1] has been the greatest upgrade to my well-being. > Apparently suffering is still happening at this stage of the path, and dissolving later fetters will erode more subtle
we just need wayyy better vibes/aesthetic for “fetters work” and maybe some better explanations and then just need some cool wholesome guy with high agency to organize the logistics be selective w the students + charge $20k-1m to reduce their suffering by 100x
then just use that money to do everything better
@corbindreams @jhanatech i like to say that most things are simple once you understand them. but the path to understanding can be difficult. ps i was an assistant for a college class using the "drawing on the right side of the brain" book. the results are real
@mcnabbd i agree! also whoa thats so so cool you helped teach that
@corbindreams @jhanatech A sensationalist post by someone who I assume has good intentions, however is not proficient in the field. The fact that you follow up with another example in another field shows that you already seem to have a premise and are working backwards. Very SF coded
@corbindreams @jhanatech all those people were already good at the expressive side of art. look at the left hand drawings.
@corbindreams @jhanatech recursive self improvement
@corbindreams @jhanatech Peak book, helped me do passable sketches in high school. Can also be applied to other learning domains in a sense that you can accomplish things by thinking about them differently. Instead of approaching things from assumptions, observe them as they are etc.

@corbindreams @jhanatech Your thread is gaining traction! #TopUnroll https://threadreaderapp.com/th... 🙏🏼@StillFlyen for 🥇unroll
@corbindreams @jhanatech The one woman played too much w shadow. She looks like a witch in the after picture. Before pic is better.
@corbindreams @jhanatech There are a lot of skills where the immediate and observable difference between "zero training whatsoever" and "has been taught the basic premise and concepts which only take a few hours" is overwhelming. Most crafts, arts, and even trades are this way. It isn't really noteworthy
@corbindreams @jhanatech It's not really the teacher in this case, it's just a set of fairly straightforward exercises that accomplish very specific cognitive goals. Apparently it doesn't work for everyone. Drawing is a very very specific skill with a more or less unique set of challenges.
@corbindreams I hate that the book uses that particular drawing on the cover, Renaissance artists worked constructively rather than optically. This book by Hale makes a better starting point for artists IMO and teaches you how Renaissance artists actually worked.
@corbindreams @jhanatech Draw faces upside down. Key advice from that book. It works.
@corbindreams @jhanatech Spam this post with similar books about other skills that we can super learn
@corbindreams @jhanatech I don’t think it has to do with learning per se, but just avoiding critical mistakes that stop you from actually learning. Concretely, the book tells you draw what you perceive in terms of angles and proportions, and not the symbolic shorthand interpretations
@corbindreams @jhanatech Sounds like Neurolinguistic Programming. You find out which meta-model your brain runs on (visual, auditory, kinethetic, etc) and then download the appropriate related learning model.
@corbindreams @jhanatech The thesis of Drawing on the Right Side..., is basically "unlearning" Left Brain symbol-heavy representation, so different from our normal "learning" framework.
@corbindreams @jhanatech Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is an amazing book.
