THREAD🧵The Gamma Staircase -How Markets Walk Between Dealer Walls Everyone sees trends. Almost no one sees the architecture behind them.... The market doesn’t move in straight lines, it walks. Each step is programmed by dealer gamma. Let me show you the invisible staircase

Picture price trapped between two walls: 🟢 A positive gamma zone (stability) 🔴 A negative gamma zone (volatility) As price shifts, dealers must constantly hedge exposure. Their hedging creates the very momentum traders think is organic.

Positive Gamma: Dealers hedge against price - buying dips, selling rips. → Market mean-reverts. Negative Gamma: Dealers hedge with price - selling dips, chasing rips. → Market trends amplify. That’s the difference between chop and breakout.

When gamma flips from positive → negative, you’ve just stepped down the staircase. When gamma flips back negative → positive, you’ve stepped up. Each step is a dealer flow transition zone, where volatility breathes in and out.

This is why rallies often pause at key strikes. Dealers are pinned... neither long nor short enough to push. Then… the next OPEX clears, fresh gamma enters, & the market unlocks the next leg. It’s not random... it’s gamma resetting.

Example: $SPX sitting at 6,600 with heavy short puts. As we drop → dealers sell futures → price accelerates. When those puts expire → hedges unwind → futures bought → next step up. The staircase completes another cycle.

Gamma levels define the battlefield. You can think of them as: Floors: high positive gamma → sticky levels Ceilings: negative gamma → volatility zones Air gaps: where liquidity thins → explosive moves Price always seeks the next air gap.

To trade it like a pro: -Map major open interest strikes $SPX $QQQ etc... -Identify gamma flip zones (+ to -) -Watch price behavior at those boundaries → Reclaim confirms a new RRC zone → Momentum shift confirms next stair step

Most traders call it trend continuation. Smart money calls it dealer rebalancing flow. The difference? Retail trades candles. Professionals trade hedge math.

When you understand the Gamma Staircase, you stop chasing momentum… and start anticipating the next dealer step. http://T.me/StockwitsMemberShi... It’s not a mystery. It’s structure.
