Let me explain. The reason I brought up Adobe is because it is caught in a similar narrative as Google was 6 months ago. Everybody (and I mean *everybody*) currently believes that Adobe is dead in the water because of GenAI disruption (just like they did for Google previously).

(If you want more market takes, I normally post them on the private feed (for subscribers), alongside all the spicer takes.)

@fchollet is the core mistake thinking genai replaces the workflow, when it just optimizes steps inside it?

@ykgup Sort of, but the more fundamental mistake is not understanding the nature of PMF. People follow abstract narratives without understanding the products and customers on the ground

@fchollet I don’t know a single graphic designer who cancelled their adobe subscription because of Gen AI

@aishahidk Same here -- again I think this would be obvious if people were actually familiar with who uses these products and how they use them.

@fchollet Adobe also has its own GenAI functionality integrated into their products. In a quite nuanced way I'd argue where it actually helps without being too intrusive

@ludgerpaehler Absolutely, it will take them some time to get the execution right, but as we're seeing with Google distribution is far more important than time to market. Sota GenAI is becoming a commodity tech and as such it will help companies with established distribution.

@fchollet Have you not seen Photopea? One guy from Prague built something better than modern photoshop and it’s free and has no sleazy business practices. It’s moral justice and righteousness that Adobo should fall.

@fchollet They could be one of the top winners of GenAI if they could integrate it better in their ecosystem especially in vector graphics (adobe illustrator) which is relatively less mature compared to pixel space generation.

@fchollet watching designers use adobe firefly is like seeing wizards discover new spells, they're not just surviving genai - they're weaponizing it better than anyone else

@fchollet You forgot an important perspective: Some Adobe users *HATE* Adobe with a passion, and they're stuck with it because alternatives are a joke. GenAI is a threat to monopolistic companies that abuse their position of power, which Adobe has been doing for decades.

@fchollet People have this weird misconception the only Gen AI and LLMs are AI This is how to tell the carpetbaggers from the OGs

@fchollet If Adobe has a problem it’s less so GenAI and more so a flagging/buggy product line and a disillusioned user base with increasing options. Canva disrupted the market pre-AI and more than AI has.

@fchollet You're really not wrong. But Adobe is also wildly disliked for their heavy-handed license fees, so people don't want them to make the AI brush work

@fchollet are you aware of the general sentiment of adobe users? its one of those companies that people actively advice to pirate. I;m just curious are u aware of this?

@fchollet I own a print shop and have multiple adobe subs just for Adobe Illustrator. I still think they are in trouble. Have you tried their genAI stuff? Maybe it will be a tailwind eventually but it's not looking great. I've completely replaced photoshop for memes with nanobanana, I

@fchollet i don't think so. i used to pirate a lot of software. now i just ask AI to make it. you don't have to pay adobe or risk getting a virus. also don't have to learn how to use some complicated software. you just make it the most simple and intuitive for yourself

@fchollet Really sharp analysis and a great reminder that markets often over-index on disruption narratives without digging into actual product stickiness or customer behavior. Adobe, like Google, is a case study in how incumbents can absorb and even amplify GenAI, not just be displaced by

@fchollet Adobe is very much about control of your asset and genai is very much about giving up control of your asset

@fchollet very true

@fchollet IQ 150+ must be so nice

@fchollet Bullish $ADBE
