The story opens with our narrator, Lily, moving to New York to set up her new life with her daughters and new husband (let’s call him Dave) that she married ~6 months before. Things are moving fast but she’s excited.

Shortly after moving, she gets offered the lead in a play called 2:22. Dave, a serious theatre actor, is annoyed that she didn’t need to audition. Duh she’s Lily fucking Allen and were’s the support Dave?! Are you jealous of her success?

Once in London she gets a call from her husband where he explains that he has needs and he will have to f*ck other women while she is away. Note: Dave has been away from Lily for weeks before, he probably had needs then too but now he doesn’t want to feel guilty about cheating.

Lily is devastated by the request. This isn’t what she agreed to when marrying Dave. But she agrees because she loves her husband & wants him to be happy. He loves her too, right? Plus she just moved her girls & set up this new life - moving back would seem like another failure.

Lily understandably starts “Ruminating” over the idea that Dave is sleeping with other women. She still wants to be his number one. He’s still her number one. The self hatred sets in and the endless thoughts of who her husband is with and what are they doing.

In “Sleepwalking” you can hear the gaslighting Dave puts her through “somehow you make it my fault” and “You let me think it was me in my head and nothing to do with them girls in your bed.”

She says “you won’t let me leave”. You see, having a family was a good look for Dave. He was often cast in popular shows and movies as the dad. He wanted to make sure people knew he was a good dad and loving husband. Plus it would cover for his indiscretions.

Dave returns from weeks away filming and Lily notices unusual behaviour with his phone. Fearing the worst, she looks through his phone and finds out he was playing “Tennis” with a woman - a relationship, not just mindingless sex.

Lily asks “Who’s Madeline?” Madeline could represent many women or one particular woman who Dave met on the set of a streaming platform movie and for 3 years flew her out to where he was filming but that’s purely speculation on my part….

Lily texts “Madeline” to find out what’s really going on. How could she trust Dave? He lied to her. He lied to Madeline. Could she trust Madeline? They had an arrangement - it had to be with strangers. His relationship with Madeline was something more serious.

Lily is heartbroken and on the verge of “Relapse” after nearly 6 years of sobriety. She wants to escape, she wants to be numb. But she knows she can’t go back to that life - “she stands to lose it all”.

Committed to her sobriety, Lily shared on her podcast that she was going to daily NA meetings. But with such abuse/mind games at home, even an outsider could see signs that other ways of self harm were creeping in and her mental health was going to shit.

Cue Pussy Palace: Dave’s famous west village apartment. Going through the apartment, Lily realizes the full extent of Dave’s double life and sex addiction.

Lily is even more suspicious of what Dave is doing with all these women. Who is he paying bags for? What is her name? As long as no one thinks Dave is cheating on his wife, he is good. He’s obsessed with sex but has no respect for women - it’s giving “4chan stan”

There may have been signs that Dave could be a misogynistic prick. Like when he struggled to define Times Up, which makes sense because he’s known to hook up with crew members, or how he described women’s bodies post pregnancy to a hook up he flew in for the weekend but I digress

Last year, as she approaches 40, Lily reaches a f*ck it moment. She considers making the relationship mutually open and becoming a “nonmonogamummy” even though she doesn’t want anyone other than Dave.

Dave sold her on this dream of a perfect life and now she is exploring things she doesn’t want to so she can keep him in her life and her family together. Lily tells him she is heartbroken and Dave couldn’t give a shit

At this point the listener might think why doesn’t she just leave him. But the problem with a self-proclaimed narcissist like Dave is he gives “Just Enough” to keep his victims holding on.

Lily keeps trying to change herself to feel the love from Dave that was there at the beginning. But conversations keep coming up that remind her of the double life he is leading. Why does he suddenly want a vasectomy? Did he get someone pregnant?

Lily creates the online persona “Dallas Major” to be discrete on her dating profile. Dave uses a cartoon of his most famous character on his profile. Lily hates being back in this online dating world but she is looking for the validation she so desperately wants from her husband.

In “Beg For Me” Lily is agreeing to stay in this imbalanced marriage but is asking Dave for at least the bare minimum - she wants to be held, loved, and desired by her husband. She looks to the person who has put her in all this pain and he is indifferent

Lily has started to accept that this marriage can’t be saved in “Let You W/In”. She’s given & tried so much but only she is suffering. David gets all the benefits: perfect wife, two kids, beautiful home, & can f*ck any wannabe influencer on Raya or costume designer

She has carried the burden of Dave’s double life for too long. “Already let you in, so why should I let you win? / You’ve taken everything.” Dave’s reputation as a leading man will go unscathed.

“Fruityloop” is the perfect conclusion to the album and this relationship. Lily has reached a point where she can see “it’s not me, it’s you”. She wishes she could fix Dave and break the cycle, but the only one who can do that is Dave.

Epilogue: Dave learned nothing & had a 26 year old gf 2 days after splitting with Lily who he took to India for the holidays. When this relationship became public he immediately dumped the girl & offered no support in the media backlash she received. He has rediscovered Buddhism.

For Lily the end of the marriage & everything she went through broke her. Feeling s*icidal but needing to be better for her girls, Lily went to a treatment centre & started the long process of undoing years of emotional abuse. As part of her recovery, she wrote a brilliant album.
