In the US, Hugo “El Pollo” Carvajal, Venezuela’s former military intelligence chief has pleaded guilty to narco-terrorism and drug-trafficking in federal court. U.S. prosecutors say he coordinated cocaine shipments alongside Colombia's FARC and now awaits sentencing.

Beyond those criminal charges, Carvajal has publicly claimed that the Venezuelan government channeled funds to left-wing political movements abroad for years — allegations that remain disputed and have not yet been adjudicated in U.S. court.

In Argentina, Jorge Taiana, served as Foreign Minister (2005–2010) under the Kirchner administration and later as Defense Minister (2021–2023). His name has appeared in regional reports concerning alleged Venezuelan influence dating back to the 2007 “suitcase” scandal.
