🧵 - I played all the entries for the Atari X Block of Horror Game Jam entries, here are some of my thoughts - 🧵

Deatholia (Besquait) - A great, fun game that has good elements throughout. Play the board game to your peril. I think its a really good, short and fun game, which has a great use of iframes.

Devil a pod (MOFL13) - Oh this game took me a while to complete, and I need to plug in a controller. The 1st level is a challenging mini obi, with one slip leading to game over. Great Level 2 design, very well put together and gives a great sense of achievement for winning!

Escape Chad (kineticbruh) . I had a tonne of fun playing this. Absolute Lols. Its funny, simple and strange, it made me laugh. The chad is great, what a fella. It's pretty simple, but has a couple of fun levels to it.

Haunted House Portal (Disform) - Great game, one of my favuorites. It had a bit of everything I like, exploration, some intense moments and a very well put together game loop. You have to have perfect timing at the end to escape, and the spider was great!

Jaws from the depth (GM637) - Quirky game that made me jump when I got eaten by the shark first time. I enjoyed the visuals and sounds of eating the fish. Simple but creative, I played it a few times, so has some replay ability.

Dark Chambers - Odyessy (Studio Dude Salad). Visually stunning with some complex gameplay sprinkled in there. This game really shows that Portals can compete with other game engines in terms of fidelity. It is the best looking game I've seen on Portals. A little harder than

Atari Halloween at the Haunted House (CyberArtsBR) - Part of the artist track, this experience has lots in a small space. Lots of 3D models representing old Atari IP and some great interactions. This was my favourite artist entry.

Mutant Maniac (ntzsol) - Out of all the games, this one felt like it had the most substance with specific gameplay loops and boss battles. The inclusion of 3 playable characters with different skill sets as well as some light puzzles made this a pleasure to play.

SONAR (OSCAR) - This game is very different to anything I've seen on Portals, really well put together, with a really cool sonar mechanic (which I have no idea how they did). I struggled to use the sonar at first, but once I knew to make a small box, I was finding things that I

House Run (DuckOneTwo) - This is a simple obi type game, that still had a bit a challenge to it. I found myself wanted to get to the end and would love to see more from this creator.

Leftovers (edosmubee) - Another Artist entry, this has gore everywhere, perfect for me. There isn't a huge amount to explore, but there is enough there to make you wonder what the hell happened in that house! I didn't see any leftovers though...

The House in The Woods (SeeTwo) - This Artist entry has a well positioned camera angle to show off a spooky scene of a House in the woods. I would love to be able to explore it, the look is very enticing.

Diamond Dust (NBJDLukasAbsolute) - A game where you fire at 3D created old school sprites. Unfortunately, I didn't get very far with this game, a little more instructions would have helped.

Haunted House (Rayleaf) - A maze type game, where you need to find 3 Urns to escape. This was a dark and ominous feeling game, which I like. The gameplay was simple exploration, but a moment of a jump scare was fun to see.

Hall of Nightmares (lauryish) - A artist track entry where retro arcade cabinets seemed to have mutated! One of the simpler creations, but I did like looking at each one.

The Ritual (SeeTwo) - Another entry that uses that nicely positioned camera angle to display a scene of horror. Very well put together and on par with the House in the woods they created.

Reel 12: The Last Restraints (BJ Painted Dawgz) - A game that features a few tasks to complete, which you better do before you turn into a werewolf. The atmosphere was great in this one, with some truly gory video effects, I enjoyed it.

Jurassicael Park (Cael Games) - Well, Jurassic Park is my fav film ever, so I love to explore anything JP. I am not sure if they made the JP models, but if they did, very well done. However, I am not sure how it links to the Game Jam theme, so a strange entry to me...

Paper Trail (Miro) - A clever use of the Atari IP, this game is a top down view point with a pair of wandering eyes. You explore different areas and there clues, keys and other things to find and collect. This game looks really nice and has a great intro too.

Haunted House (Bak David) - Another version of a Haunted House game, where you need to collect 3 Urn pieces to escape. I really liked the voice over in this, as well as the use of creepy dolls and atmosphere. Pacing was good and the use of candles to directed players helped a

House of Horror Blocktoberfest (Nun_chuck) - An entry for Artist showcase and boy was this a cool one. A floating horror castle. I would love to explore this in more detail, but it wasn't explorable which was a shame as it looks great

Fix It in Post(mortem) (vasilllisa) - A game after my own heart, with fixed camera angles, it gave me that old school gaming feel. Collect urns to capture ghost around the house. Visually nice, with cool camera points. Navigation was a bit tricky at times, but I love the use of

The House (Cael Games) - A game where you find a key and escape. This game took me a few seconds to complete, so I went back and explored more. There is a funny robot that chases you, and a house that has been put together. Not much more to say...

Life After Death (Hugh and Tatltael) - Great opening scene and I spent the longest playing this game. This game has the most jump scares and some really clever design at certain points (fire and gas). I enjoyed this though it is challenging, and the ending was good!

Witch Hunt: Forgotten Labyrinth (Tim Heart Interactive). I found this game really fun to play, like a mazy low poly interactive puzzle. I laugh at the some of the prompts and I wish there was more to the ending. Overall, a little bit of fun well received.

Dracula the Undead - Oliver's Tale (BYF). Visually Great. Gameplay very well thought out. Best opening of any game I played. Got me with several jump scares. The use of atmosphere, lighting and sounds were A+. Overall, one of the best games ever made on Portals, let alone this

Find the dolls (SMT4) - A game where you have to collect 4 dolls to get home. The game play was quite simple, but nice to see some more creepy dolls. Some atmosphere was created in the house and I would love to see this creator explore more.

Courage Cowardly Dog (With Interior) (B.Gamess) - I love Courage, one of my favourite cartoons growing up. And this recreation is great for the artist showcase. I have no idea how this links to any BoH or Atari IP though...

Xenon Space Riders (SomElsAmics) - Mines and exploding monsters, what's not to love. This game is well guided so you are never left guessing. I loved placing bombs everywhere and the obi part is a good level of difficult to maintain the fun. Great ending too!

Witch Hunt (Alohacowboysol) - The first game I played for this game jam and got addicted instantly. It may seem simple, but I can tell a lot of effort has gone into this game. The most replay-ability out all the games I played and one of my favourites, it is just a great game

Vigilance (Moof Studios). No comment.
