If you think Dragotta treats the medium like storyboards… 1. You don’t understand storyboards. 2. Don’t understand how creators think about mediums. 3. Don’t understand comics. Creators are allowed to want their work across mediums & make bank while doing so. Stahp.
@therightram I think you mean “media.”
@orenthaltwain No. Mediums has long been an accepted plural, when you're talking about specific modes of artistic expression, rather than communication outlets.
@therightram Also you might want to reconsider: “Creators are allowed to want their work across mediums & make bank while doing so.”
@therightram Why are people dragging Dragotta?
@therightram @8thDrBestDr You are respected among cbtwt new generation and we could really use some help some of the bullshit takes we see in this hellhole from time to time, if you think the Dragotta discourse is bad, I’m sorry to tell you this is the most tame of the bad takes of the last 7 days alone.
@therightram Wait, people are shitting on Nick for the animation thing? That’s just plain stupid
@therightram They just wanted to find a reason to hate on it😭😭😭.
@therightram and also making a show on absolute batman would make so many more people pick up the comic and therefore get into comics as a whole, I dont understand why people are mad about what he said
@therightram Absolute Batman works great, let the creator do anything he wants
@therightram I don't get why it's bad to want your work to go to a different medium anyway. I adore comics and I love absolute batman but an animated adaptation would be fun to watch too
@therightram This is the first I’m hearing of this criticism of Dragotta. People is dumb.
@therightram its also ok for an artist to say, "this would make a great anime." his art. his opinion. people are freaks
@therightram I took a page from his work that I saw on twitter and got impressed enough with the flow that I tried to map out how it directs your eyes. I think the coolest trick is it guiding your vision UP those panels with the arm blades, and leaving a beat before that text box.
@therightram I don’t even understand this criticism. Dragotta said he wanted Trigger to make an AbsBats movie and then some other random Twitter drive by said he was “using the medium as storyboards”? No wonder he got off Twitter lol
@therightram When a work’s criticism reads like the pros in a pros and cons list you know you’ve got something special. 1. It’s unlike any Batman 2. Storytelling looks like storyboards 3. Marcos Martin art 4. Unrecognizable Clay Mann art 5. Cast is too diverse 6. At least 36 issues?!
@therightram Missed all this but based on what he seems to have said it’s sheer idiocy to go after him. Especially since there are enough out there who clearly do make “comics” that are half assed story launching boards intended only to be spec work instead of a meaningful comic work.
@therightram Can you imagine the author of some fantasy novel saying they'd love to see a screen adaptation and fans start screaming about how fantasy novels are just glorified screenplays now?
@therightram cant they just be glad it'd be rad as fuck if they do animate it?
@therightram I’ve been reading comics all my life and I must say I’ve never seen the fandom as toxic as it is now. I thought those losers behind comicsgate would be the brunt of it but now, it just seems like everyone hates everything for the sake of starting a conversation. Really sad
@therightram Honestly I see comics and animation as such deeply connected mediums that I think it's insane that people would someone blame an comic artist for wanting his work to be adapted.
@therightram If you don’t think Joe Mad treats the medium like PlayStation magazine cover auditions…
@therightram It's also disrespectful to manga artists who got their series adapted into animation. Like, do people seriously see Dragon Ball as just a storyboard for the anime? Huge disrespect to a huge portion of the best comic creators around. Animation doesn't replace comics.
@therightram Yep, the two mediums are very different (I've done both). Comics that try too hard to mimic film storyboards tend to feel static and boring; comics can (should) be a bold, exciting way to tell a story.
@therightram Also, it's bizarre to even think a guy so obviously obsessing about every single detail of every of his frames and how they relate to all other details is basically doing storyboards hoping to make some dough.
@therightram All because he casually said it'd be cool if Trigger adapted his work.
@therightram A+ post.
@therightram Get them again for me Ram
@therightram There's genuinely no way people are saying that right? It's no different than a manga creator wanting their manga adapted, is it because it's a comic artist saying so the "comics are DEAD!" People came out? There's no difference lol.
@therightram usual ram w take
