The Ancients are Rising! 1️⃣ Prof Gyaneshwar Chaubey @gyanc7 of BHU was attending a cremation in his native village on the northern bank of the Ganga in Chaubepur, about 20 km north of Varanasi, when he noticed a one-faced Shivling half-buried in the sand.

2️⃣ It was- • Trinetra (Third Eye) • Jatamukuta (matted crown) • Fine Pratihara-style carving • Sandstone typical of the region & era The discovery was made on 20 October and later confirmed to belong to the 9th–10th century AD.

5️⃣ASI DG Dr Rakesh Tiwari said, “The discovery of such idols on the banks of the Ganga indicates that there may have once existed an active Shaivite temple or monastery here.”

6️⃣ Professor Vasant Shinde @ProfVasant added, “The style and stonework of this Shivling clearly indicate it was created by local artisans.” Experts plan to conserve the site for future study of medieval Shaivism and Gangetic civilisation.
