After El Fasher fell to the hands of the RSF militia in Sudan 🇸🇩, thousands of civilians are being killed before our eyes. To understand the war, I made a serie of 20 MAPS on the war since 2023. 🧵THREAD🧵1/23 ⬇️

Before the war, Sudan was already split between the military junta (SAF + RSF) and neutral factions (rebels and former rebels), including Joint Darfur Forces, Sudan Liberation Army in Darfur and Sudan People Liberation Army North in the Nuba mountains of Kordofan. BASE MAP :

The main fightings in 2023 erupted in all the main cities, with the RSF controling the Darfur region and part of Khartoum after April 15th coup attempt. They also took the Meroe airbase and captured egyptian and sudanese pilots.

Then, Meroe was liberated by the SAF, but fightings continued everywhere : -El Geneina fell (15 000 Massalit slaughtered by RSF) -Khartoum battle intensified -Darfur garrisons encircled

In november 2023, the RSF took control of most of Darfur garrisons, Nyala, Kas, Zalingei, Ed Daein and Adiela. Only El Fasher didn't fall thanks to the intervention of Joint Forces. The SLM-A of Minnawi joined the SAF in North Darfur. RSF took control of south Khartoum.

In december 2023, the RSF, unable to capture the main bases of the armed forces in central Khartoum pushed instead to Wad Madani, in the fertile Gezira state. At the same time, it continued its offensive in West Kordofan until february.

In May 2024 most of Joint Forces of Darfur joined the army alignated troops. The RSF pushed to Sennar and in the oilfields of Kordofan.

In june 2024, a new breakthrough happened in the south of the country, the RSF bypassed Sennar and took Singa, reaching the South Sudanese and Ethiopian borders.

In august 2024, the SAF reopened the Kosti-Sennar road, cutting Singa and taking Jebel Moya, first successful counter-offensive.

In september, the war escalated with the RSF seeking supply roads to Libya. The SAF liberated Singa and started Khartoum counter-offensive.

In november, they crossed two bridges to Khartoum and Bahri from Omdourman and started the battle for Wad Madani.

Wad Madani fell in january 2025, while the SAF pushed to lift the siege of El Obeid.

In february, Khartoum was close to be liberated, with the liberation of the siege of the general command and the siege of El Obeid was also lifted.

In march, the SAF liberated Khartoum after a long counter-offensive, a strategic victory.

In april 2025, the RSF, retreated from Omdourman and restarted offensive operations to capture El Fasher and En Nahud.

In may, En Nahud fell and the SPLM-N joined the Tassis alliance of the RSF. The SAF took the opportunity to reopen the Dilling-Kadugli road. The RSF managed to open a road to Libya, pushing from southern Libya.

In the summer 2025, the battle for Kordofan was going on while the SAF counter-attacked in the desert. The RSF pushed in central El Fasher.

In september, the SAF managed to take Bara but failed ot reopen the strategic El Obeid-Omdourman road.

The images and videos from today are getting worse. Literrally, we can see blood and corpses from satellite videos. Source : @HRL_YaleSPH

Women and children are allowed to leave the area, most of them being in a despearately bad situation (no food and barely no water for months). But what's happening for men is worse.

Image in tweet by Clément Molin

I saw tens of videos showing hundreds + of dead people, including multiple POW and civilians executions. But the worse is to come. BOYS AND MEN BASED ON ETHNICITY are being gathered outisde El Fasher. This is turning into Srebrenica, ant it's called GENOCIDE.

@clement_molin عندك معلومات مغلوطة واخري صحيحة
