Gaspard is my favorite character in the Gildllan Empire faction partly because a friend I made through this game was the best main of his ever and he helped me a lot in the co-op raids. 🤭 The other part is because of my Federation bias—

—yet I wouldn’t even say his allegiance is with them 100%. I feel like he’s meant to be someone who’s playing all sides for his personal motives. After all, he’s also in contact with Ed and Lydie of the Adventurers’ faction.

His EP1 lays out that life doesn’t pull any punches on him. He has a boss he hates. His mission involves deceiving a village full of ordinary people just trying to get by. That’s par for the course of being a spy, but he shows that it does weigh on his conscience.

And by the end of it, he has a rough walk of shame through Jeanholts Village because Federation forces suddenly arrived, revealing his true nature as a spy. It’s highly likely that was arranged by his boss.

He was privy to some information that could’ve cleared his name, but it’s a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” deal. Telling them earlier would’ve made them so panicked it would mess with his plan, and they’d probably just call him a liar if he told them later.

But the deepest stinger is how, through the mission he just accomplished, he now has information on one of the biggest mysteries of Luminaria’s plot.
