š My Team Some of you will have seen that I strongly pondered selling Haaland, and bringing in (& potentially) captaining Salah. Iāve just decided against it. I say this so you understand why thereās no talk of Salah in this thread. Enjoy and have a terrific weekend š
š MUN MIDs If you look at how BRI & LIV play, both approach the game more aggressive than most. Youāre not coming up against those 541 deep blocks. Rather itās more a game of exploiting space, quick transitions, and being able to play through the block, even in central areas.
Youāre offered the opportunity to slice through the sides like a hot knife on butter, itās just whether you have the talent to do so. Manchester United evidently do. If however, we look at the next batch of six fixtures, itās clear they arenāt the same type overall.
NFO & EVE - 442 mid-deep blocks primarily. CRY - Capable of different things, but probably transition into a mid-deep 532 OOP more than anything. TOT - Closer to BRI albeit different WHU & WOL - Currently exploitable in a number of different fashions, less relevant.
Thatās all essentially to say, recently youāve had games which suited Mbeumo, more than some of the following will. If you look at the games theyāve had prior, thereās a clear trend between Mbeumoās ābetter/worseā performances & data vs better/worse stylistic match ups.
As such, the difference between Cunha & him for the upcoming fixtures is minimal in my eyes, if it even swings Mbeumoās way in the first place! I actual prefer Matheus. Cunha getting his first goal will be a BIG deal for his confidence. This is not to be understated. His skill
Moving onto their truly brilliant captain. I could use superlative after superlative without strain, to describe their Portuguese Magnifico - Bruno Fernandes. To me, right now, heās practically inevitable.
With the inclusion of DEFCON & how good he is on the bonus point system, OVER A LONG ENOUGH SPAN OF GAMES - heās got a high floor. A SUPER high floor. So much quality, with set pieces & penalties, that attacking returns is again, almost inevitable. The most aggressive play?
Probably not, albeit he is capable of some monster hauls. However, as a set and forget OVER A LONG ENOUGH SPAN OF GAMES, heāll do very well for you. Heās probably been the āunluckiest playerā in the league when you consider points outcome & performances.
Depending on match up interpretation and style of FPL management: 1. Bruno/Cunha 2. Bruno/Cunha 3. Mbeumo
š Mateta, Joao Pedro & the FWDs The main reason for this section is just to say: - Mateta isnāt essential, whilst being a very good option. - Joao Pedro isnāt anywhere near as bad as heās been made out to be, whilst the sales in some cases are completely justifiable.
The views on these assets are too extreme in my eyes. Yes Mateta is a very good player, whoās accumulated a lot of big chances this season, is on penalties and plays for a very good Palace team. However, I could frame it that: Heās missed a lot of big chances, and if thatā¦
continues, heās really hurting himself for bonus when he doesnāt get two or more returns. The number of chances heās accumulating could reasonably reduce. Brentford are āin formā, albeit I still think their defence can be gotten at, and he has a poor record against them.
Thereās no Nketiah to reduce his workload, and Wharton in a variety of different ways is a huge miss in the middle. Going him and Sarr reduces your ceiling (without Palace scoring freely) and increases your risk profile
* With all that being said, going back to the original statement, I do really like him as an option overall. Individual Quality + Team Quality + Fixtures + Platforming = High Floor, High Ceiling * There just needs to be some appreciation of the negatives!
Joao Pedro: Selling him for Mateta is completely justifiable of course, I just donāt think the gap is anywhere near as big as itās made out to be. Short term (next 1-2 GWs) especially. Iād be surprised if he didnāt return at least once in the next two. FTs are precious.
š Wildcard 10 Draft Affordability & Swaps - If you canāt afford this⦠Bruno can be Cunha/Mbeumo. Pope can be Leno/Sanchez. Ndiaye can be Szoboszlai/Minteh (personally not a fan of the latter) If you have BB, Iād consider a 3-4-3 so you can have a playing J.King (hopefully)
š Captaincy Iām captaining Saka over Haaland. Football wise, thereās enough for me to do it, albeit itās marginal. A relatively small part of the decision is based on my *feel* of how the games go, as opposed to a particular bit of analysis. A few things to consider:
- Rodri unlikely to start from the off. Harder to play through Bournemouthās press as such. You will retain the ball less, in a game where thatās super important, because Bournemouth force chaos. Lose his defensive abilities, and bring in someone whoās less press resistant.
Saka for: - Arsenalās RHS ball dominance & firepower - Performances recently - Arsenalās block breaking dynamics with the FBās role + quality & Eze - Ceiling as MID with such a good fixture - Swagger, presence & general energy. All seem different this season. (- Feeling)
