That the government's still shut down over a month into FY26 because the Republicans can't let go of their n+1th attempt to defund the ACA is peak competency crisis. Faced with a need to actually legislate, the GOP is instead trying to screw with a law from (checks notes) 2010.⬇️

@ArmchairW Deregulation is how you fix healthcare. Not that anyone would propose that because regulation is how they steal from us and give to their actual constituents.

@DialecticDogma Health care in this country is a horror show because we simultaneously have far too much and far too little regulation.

@ArmchairW The government is shutdown b/c the DNC wanted to not pass a clean CR until after No Kings and elections were done. We haven't had a full budget in decades (1997). It has nothing to do with the ACA, which was a time bomb as designed.

@Terry_Hendrix The "clean" CR they're talking about defunds the ACA.

@ArmchairW This isn't about Republican refusing to govern. Dems attached ACA subsidy extensions to what's supposed to be a clean CR If they removed the rider, the government would already be open. They can debate the policy separately, but shutting the government over it is on them

@Ana_Bastet911 The Dems aren't going to let the GOP melt down the ACA and the GOP damn well knows this.

@ArmchairW Identity politics in the United States has divided the nation so deeply that the only future left for it is balkanization.

@ArmchairW Couldn't have said it better. If we had term limits for congress people, maybe it would not have been this bad (it would still be bad)!

@ArmchairW The Obamacare subsides in question are not the tax credits from the ACA. These were a 4 year supplement to the ACA subsidies passed in 2021. They were scheduled to expire at the end of FY2025. You are engaging in disinformation to make temporary coof spending permanent.

@ArmchairW your argument is totally disingenuous. the issue is continuing to pay temporary covid era increased subsidies to the already very profitable health insurance companies. this feeds further cost increases. you should educate yourself and not simply pump put D party talking points.

@ArmchairW "the cars are all abandoned and up for sale to the highest bidder." Bars.

@ArmchairW Shumerus has badly overplayed his hand. The Dems want to extend what was intended to be temporary spending. Your spin isn't swaying public opinion. The health care system needs a total revamp. It was intentionally designed to fail so as to usher in a government take over.

@ArmchairW Seems like an inherent flaw in Presidential systems which really manifested when Congress effectively gave up the war power. Now with the additional loss of the purse , the body is without meaningful power. Hence populated by mediocrities

@ArmchairW Break it. It's the only way. Half measures and compromised fixes only further the mess. The govt should just run free base level care clinics and then crush the large insurers with RICO for all the collusion and price fixing.

@ArmchairW I want to know what they spent $600B on in Oct when they aren't even paying people. They're set to spend $1T in 50 days, up from 70 days for the previous $1T, up from 9 months prior. Also, DOJ paying for SNAP when USDA *had* a funded fund? This reeks of looting the treasury

@ArmchairW The politicians are only ever going to be as serious as their electorate. The dude in pajamas and flip flops out in public is not going to ever elect a government worth anything.

@ArmchairW It's a republican stop then all the illegals will stay and that's over 25 million days to make so this really is a existential shutdown and guess what that's fine

@ArmchairW The house and senate (ostensibly) prevented Trump from recess appointments. I doubt this is because of the ACA.

@ArmchairW Wow! Excellent

@ArmchairW America is a plutocracy. So many problems flow from that basic fact.

@ArmchairW This isball according to my plan

@ArmchairW @MasterOfNonees Could it be....the next Winter 1991?

@ArmchairW Everything Washington warned about has come true, but even he couldn't imagine what throwing money into the mix would cause.
