A sneak peek at the cover of next week’s issue, which celebrates Zohran Mamdani’s historic win. #NewYorkerCovers https://newyorkermag.visitlink...

@NewYorker Historic moment. A subway full of every kind of New Yorker… and the mayor actually looks like he belongs there. That’s why they’re panicking. Diversity won. Fear lost. Mamdani is the future — Trump is the rerun nobody asked for.

@NewYorker from political candidate to New Yorker cover star in one election - that's a fast track

@NewYorker Beyond the win, what broader narrative do you hope this cover sparks in public discourse?

@NewYorker A historic win, and a cover that perfectly captures the true New York experience: celebrating while squeezed on the M train. Hope that $9.99 issue gives us more room to breathe, even by Nov. 17, 2025.

@NewYorker Wondering if The New Yorker's alternate cover art ever made it past the concept of a pencil sketch stage.

@NewYorker 50.4% of the electorate is not a mandate

@NewYorker It seems like he won simply by saying he was going to give away services for free. He has no way of enforcing this, nor does he have a clue how he will fund these free programs and services. If he expects the rich to pay, they will leave, and it will become an economic dead zone.

@NewYorker Pass the popcorn!

@NewYorker Lol a fitting cover. Everyone is depressed except the one guy.

@NewYorker Wait, shouldn’t it be full of homeless people?

@NewYorker the good news is that soviet flats will finally pop the housing bubble, the bad news is that there won't be enough concrete for parking lots or sidewalks

@NewYorker That lady with the earring looks like the one who elbowed me for no reason while getting off the N train last week.

@NewYorker @_EstaLindaLaMar Oh, what a time to be alive!

@NewYorker Stockholm syndrome much, leftist New Yorkers?

@NewYorker A global immigrant city being let by an African immigrant. A big win for #Alkebulan #immigrantcommunities

@NewYorker You forgot his security detail. He doesn't ride busses alone. Oh, right, you're misleading people... again.

@NewYorker You having his back turned to the Jewish man is exactly right. It shows his blatant antisemitism.

@NewYorker Love it. Make one for India too. We need something similar.

@NewYorker So you do root for a side.

@NewYorker Weird: no crazy guy lighting someone on fire. That will become vastly more common in the subway than this scene.

@NewYorker Turning his back on teh Jewish man and white woman was a nice touch

@NewYorker Awesome cover! Love how it captures Mamdani riding the subway with all kinds of New Yorkers—such a cool way to celebrate his big win! 🎉

@NewYorker went to see if the New Yorker had a cover when Dinkins won (Mamdani is this generation's David Dinkins). Nope. New York is so lame that this gets a cover now: our society is ruled by dorky theater kids who are lame

@NewYorker Everyone miserable except him. Sounds about right.

@NewYorker Melting Pot of Humanity 👏🇺🇸👏🇺🇸👏🇺🇸

@NewYorker Mamdani is a TikTok winner. Social media has just exponentially amplified the voices of millions of the dumbest people... The problem with free stuff is someone has to pay for it. If the rich take their tax dollars with them, the bill doesn't vanish, it lands on the low & middle

@NewYorker Historically stupid

@NewYorker You forgot to include all the mentally ill and drug addicted who parade through the cars terrorizing people and will surely soon multiply.

@NewYorker Astonishing, spectacular, Love from Indonesia https://x.com/AP/status/198590...

@NewYorker Doesn’t look like America to me.

@NewYorker Everyone's a foreigner lol
