Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says she's concerned such petition drives aren't using the recall legislation in good faith but instead, are trying to overthrow her government. https://globalnews.ca/news/115...

@GlobalCalgary Well, isn't that the point of recall legislation? To recall unpopular MLAs and, if enough MLAs are unseated, to get rid of unpopular governments?

@GlobalCalgary And she is telling the truth. This is a vendetta by unions whom Jane openly said they want the government overthrown?????

@GlobalCalgary The ndp & public unions are openly stating they want to overthrow a democratically elected government That’s called sedition

@GlobalCalgary I mean, they are openly saying that is their intention.

@GlobalCalgary What a bunch of assholes! How do you call yourselves professionals? Who takes the worst picture you can find of someone and put in a bullshit headline!

@GlobalCalgary She is doing that herself

@GlobalCalgary Good faith and the NDP don’t belong in the same sentence.

@GlobalCalgary Nobody wants another NDP dumpster fire.

@GlobalCalgary And she’s correct.

@GlobalCalgary Is there a reason for choosing such an unflattering photo of the Premier?

@GlobalCalgary Time to mass arrest public union members... they are trying to over through a an elected government.

@GlobalCalgary They're being pretty open about it. So... yah.

@GlobalCalgary well obviously

@GlobalCalgary She is correct as it’s obviously the case.

@GlobalCalgary They said so themselves.

@GlobalCalgary Wait until the NDP recalls begin, lol. It will make a mockery of the system 😆

@GlobalCalgary UCP: makes recall legislation People: use legislation UCP: THATS NOT IN GOOD FAITH

@GlobalCalgary @grok can you please elaborate?

@GlobalCalgary Ummm, yes, that's how recalls work. If enough people actually want to recall all UCP MLAs (which is doubtful but whatever) then that's what could happen. And I'll note the UCP created the current recall process in Alberta.

@GlobalCalgary get fucked Global 🖕

@GlobalCalgary That's kind of the whole point of recall legislation though.

@GlobalCalgary Yeah... you use the notwisthstanding clause on a group, they don't have much choice but to try and oust your government. What the hell else are they supposed to do?

@GlobalCalgary What exactly is 'used in good faith' if not to recall politicians who's policies aren't supported by the people? *For the record I was never a fan of recall legislation, but once you set the rules for the game don't complain if people play by those rules*

@GlobalCalgary Oh yea that’s like the entire point of the system is to allow the population the power to do that, so maybe change your government.

@GlobalCalgary Says the person who plays fast and easy with use of the “notwithstanding” clause.

@GlobalCalgary Not sure she understands the meaning of "instead". Such petition drives are in fact using the recall legislation in a good faith try to overthrow her government.

@GlobalCalgary Hmmm. I guess @jkenney knew what he was doing when Bill 52 - the Recall Act. He knew what (who) was coming and and left a marvelous legacy! 😂 Joke's on @dani

@GlobalCalgary The problem with "good faith" is who gets to define it? That's why recall is a ridiculous tool and the UCP are about to get bitten by their own dog. MLAs should only be recalled for criminal charges or massive impropriety.

@GlobalCalgary IN other words How dare they use our own weapons against us!!!!

@GlobalCalgary @zyzeer The govt that uses the TWC to strip Albertans of their rights and force teachers back to work is concerned about acting in good faith?

@GlobalCalgary It’s true what they say, that people look a lot like their pets.

@GlobalCalgary Her government forgot to specify, when they introduced this recall legislation, that it couldn’t be used against UCP MLAs — only their opponents. 😂

@GlobalCalgary Good faith? What’s the point of recall legislation if it can’t be used by the public? The education minister failed the teachers and students and deserves to be recalled.

@GlobalCalgary When elected officials override sacred rights and dismiss citizen recall as “bad faith,” they sever the rhythm between governance and community. Its betrayal. Albertan's deserve better.
