With this electorate, if you can't explain the benefits of your policies purely through first-order effects, you will lose. "We'll make it easier to build houses, which will increase supply, which will--" Nope. Sorry, this guy over here's just gonna freeze my rent. Rent low good.

@romanhelmetguy Simple "more house means rent low"

@romanhelmetguy erm how do you expect to compete in the Marketplace of Ideas without good ideas?????

@romanhelmetguy Bullseye. Needs to be simple, immediate. This is why direct tax cuts are a good thing IF they are for workers not just corporations.

@romanhelmetguy Even easier. Best response to every question: I HATE TRUMP! That is all a democrat has to say. To every single question asked. It will work for the next 6 election cycles. Trump not running and even after Trump passes away.

@romanhelmetguy 😁If term lengths weren’t set, politicians would probably be sacked like football managers. Demand for results is immediate. But doing it right takes time.

@romanhelmetguy This is fundamentally an issue of trust. Voters are skeptical of second-order arguments because they don’t trust the elites who put them forward. This in turn is downstream of the elites having sold out America over the past 30+ years.

@romanhelmetguy Yes, which is probably why Trump was so effective. He didn't bother giving long boring policy explanations. If he knew that wouldn't land, he would switch to emotional tactics, like simply ridiculing the opposition, which the dumbed-down electorate can appreciate.

@romanhelmetguy Except, of course, that a lot of the time rent freezes are planned to occur... the rent skyrockets to cover for inflation, cost of living, etc ahead of time. And then people are evicted Count Dankula covers each of his proposed plans & how they backfire https://youtu.be/1WWB917uO5k?s...

@romanhelmetguy Mamdani - I will immediately pass a law that stops your rent from going up. Cuomo - Here’s my complex plan to get more units on the market.

@romanhelmetguy I’LL DO GOOD THING. MY OPPONENT WILL DO BAD THING. Checkmate, nerds.

@romanhelmetguy Bottom quartile theorem correct once again

@romanhelmetguy So what will happen when these things don't come about?

@romanhelmetguy Illegals gone, everything cheaper.

@romanhelmetguy No job, deport your neighbor!

@romanhelmetguy Maybe do both... Freeze temporarily until more houses are built.

@romanhelmetguy The old Aristocratic Electorate model was better.

@romanhelmetguy "this electorate" here means non white foreigners The people who voted for Zohran Mamdani

@romanhelmetguy Cave economics.

@romanhelmetguy This seems like a decent argument for stopping low IQ people from voting. "Sorry you just can't understand inflation's connection to money printing. No vote for you!"

@romanhelmetguy So just lie.

@romanhelmetguy That’s democracy for you!

@romanhelmetguy Sadly, I believe this is true.

@romanhelmetguy Democracy doesn’t work below a certain average IQ

@romanhelmetguy Utterly depressing, but probably true.

@romanhelmetguy Also this: https://x.com/aravind/status/1... Just substitute that train-thingy with 9/11 and you’ll understand.

@romanhelmetguy Has to do with trust in politicians as well. Can’t be held to second order effects as well as first order.

@romanhelmetguy Rent is a ratchet, it only turns one way. The supply is irrelevant. They will continue turning the ratchet. Nobody has ever had their rent go down.

@romanhelmetguy The issue is people have a low grasp on economic concepts and legitimately expect the government to be a Money Machine. So when the guy running says "I'll give you money", they cannot grasp the outlying consequences of that.

@romanhelmetguy Yeah. Mass politics are not about sound reasoning; they're about trust. Simple is more trusty. If you want to do something complicated, you backdoor sell it to someone smart who has already earned people's trust (typically by simple means).

@romanhelmetguy Best argument against democracy šŸ‘

@romanhelmetguy As in Make America Great Again? or America First? Hype wins despite the lack of followup policies or even their exact opposite. This does not speak well of the electorate nor our immediate prospects regardless of which party wins office. Republican Ruse or Democrat Deception.

@romanhelmetguy Lofty rhetoric feeds good feelings and hope to the uncritical mind. "I'll vote for the guy that makes me feel good." It's that simple.
