Gary grew up poor in a council estate in, East London.

Parents worked multiple jobs just to get by.

No financial privilege, just raw mathematical talent.

He got lucky and got a scholarship to an elite economics school—the London School of Economics.

In his final year, Gary heard Citi Bank hires you if you win in a card game—it's called The Trading Game.

Students all around the country joined. All of them are math geniuses from wealthy families.

But Gary won… 

Citi Bank hired Gary in 2007.

But in 2008, the financial crisis happened. Everyone panicked.

Interest rates went from 5% to 0.5% in a few months. It was the largest cut of interest rates in history.

This is where things get interesting… 

From 2008 till 2011 economists kept saying interest rates are going to go back up.

But it never did. This is where Gary took a different approach.

Instead of relying on economic theories, he went and asked normal people about why they aren't spending.

Their answer? 

Normal people didn't have money to spend. It was only the rich who could benefit from the low interest rates.

So Gary kept betting that interest rates would stay zero—he made millions and became the best trader in the world.

But something was not sitting right with him…

• Governments are going into debt

After being the most profitable trader at Citi Bank he quit.

He couldn't consciously keep trading knowing that he was making wealth inequality even worse.

But Gary didn't stop trading or making predictions.

Here are 5 of his wildest predictions:

1) You'll never own a house.

In the 50s, 60s, and 70s, middle-class families were able to buy a house and support a family earning the average wage.

But that's not possible now.

People making $70k a year are living paycheck-to-paycheck. This is not normal. 

2) Bitcoin is going to zero.

Bitcoin is musical chairs, you go round and round until the music stops, hoping you're not the one who's holding the bag.

It doesn't exist. It's costless to make. It's only worth money on paper. It has no real value. 

3) Economic growth won't make you wealthy.

Money doesn't make society richer. Money is not a resource like food, energy, and housing.

If everyone just receives more money, the prices go up.
Creating more resources and assets is how you make a society richer. 

4) Compound interest doesn't work for normal people.

Most people think they'll get rich just by compound interest. But it doesn't work.

Because in theory, resources are unlimited. Everyone can keep growing.

But in the real world, resources are limited.

You will reach a limit

5) Victorian level of poverty will return in the UK.

Living standards collapse for ordinary people.

Governments are going into debt.

But the growth of wealth of the super-rich is the fastest we've ever seen.

Living standards will collapse and housing will become unaffordable.
