JD Vance's speech at the Munich Security Conference today was intended for an American audience. The German press &amp; regime politicians are now lining up to denounce his statements. A real effort to nudge EU politics away from Eurocrat authoritarianism would look much different.

Most Euro political pathology is downstream of the American presence in Europe, and specifically American security guarantees, which allow us to cultivate a provincial childish welfare-state leftism in the absence of any immediate security concerns.

These politics will continue so long as Europe remains a province of the American Empire. If Trump succeeds in reorienting American foreign policy towards China &amp; compelling the Euros to assume responsibility for their own defence, the worst shit will begin to fade on its own.

If the Trump administration want to soften the exclusionary and closed politics of Germany (Vance denounced the Brandmauer), their best option would be to offer carrots and sticks behind the scenes to CDU. Perhaps that is also their plan, but I'm not sure how much they really care about this tbh.
