China has surpassed the US on 6th gen fighter development. They're reacting to the Chinese development.

It's the first time the US is playing catch up in air superiority, since World War 2.

The entire Western war doctrine revolves around gaining air superiority, losing that means losing everything.

For China, winning that means winning everything.
That's what at stake. 

Currently the most public and advanced 6th gen fighter in the world is the J-36, the competing "J-50" is less known, hence less talked about.

The J-36 is designed to set the rules for 6th gen air warfare.

J-36 is to 6th gen air warfare as F-22 is to 5th gen air warfare. 

J-36 is a tailless 3 engine design with advanced capabilities in electronic warfare, and enough electricity power generation for future directed energy weapons.

The J-36 is an order of magnitude more stealthy than 5th gen fighters, with much more powerful sensor and EW suite. 

They will serve as a long range information node/ command center that can also launch extreme long range air to air missiles.

Possible missile: 

The J-36 will be able to amalgamate all the capabilities of:

AWACS, Electronic warfare fighters, bombers and air superiority fighters into one all-aspect-stealth platform.

This will redefine air warfare until we get low earth orbit space fighters.

Countries without 6th gen fighters will be utterly outmatched by the likes of J-36 and J-50.

You can't detect them, if they choose to reveal themselves, it's to paralyze your sensor systems through powerful jamming. 

Even if you somehow manage to shoot at them with missiles, their directed energy weapons, such as lasers will be able to intercept it. 

When titans clash over the Pacific, lobbing air-to-air missiles with 800km of range, and hypersonic anti-ship missiles.

That is considering IF the US can keep up in the air with China.

Even then, what use are your allies?
