HIGH CORTISOL: Here are 5 ways to lower it (backed by research): #1 GABA GABA completely stops cortisol. 25-50 mg orally halts it in response to physiological stress, improving: ⊙ Fatigue ⊙ Concentration ⊙ Physical discomfort (🧵1/9) https://x.com/Outdoctrination/...
GABA can suppress cortisol by its action in the brain. The hypothalamus produces CRH ➞ pituitary to produce ACTH ➞ adrenals to produce cortisol. GABA input to the hypothalamus calms these neurons, preventing CRH release and cortisol production. (2/9)
#2 Grounding 6 weeks of grounding completely normalized the cortisol pattern throughout the day. & improved sleep. The difference is dramatic in my experience (+ with clients). (3/9)
With contact to the earth, the brain puts out less CRF, a protein that starts the cascade that produces cortisol - making us stressed, jittery, restless and anxious. Probably a big reason why we see grounding be so beneficial. (4/9) https://x.com/Outdoctrination/...
#3 Sugar Experiments show that animals without adrenal glands produce less CRH (or CRF, same thing) when they consume sugar. The more sugar they consume, the less CRF they produce. Eating sugar can acutely lower cortisol (vs aspartame). (5/9)
Several neurons in the hypothalamus are considered to be glucose sensitive. When blood sugar drops, they produce CRH to raise blood sugar. But just eating sugar can quickly satisfy these neurons and stop the CRH production. (6/9) https://x.com/Outdoctrination/...
#4 DHEA DHEA nearly cuts cortisol in half. DHEA directly inhibits the production of cortisol in the adrenals and opposes all of the functions of cortisol: ☆ Relaxes mood ☆ Reduces belly fat ☆ Preserves brain function ☆ Puts on muscle ☆ Improves skin quality ☆ Improves
DHEA in a few ways to lower cortisol. 1. Suppresses cortisol-mediated gene expression 2. Inhibits 11βHSD1 3. Lowers the ratio of cortisol receptors (GRα to GRβ) - which suppresses cortisol receptor activation. https://x.com/Outdoctrination/... (8/9)
#5 Vitamin D Vitamin D lowers cortisol by 40%. Just 2,000 IU / day here, a few minutes outside during peak sun hours. It also lowered blood pressure substantially (by 9/7 mmHg). Likely by: ◈ Inhibiting 11BHSD1 ◈ Lowering inflammation ◈ Controlling calcium balance in the
@Outdoctrination The role of GABA in modulating cortisol levels is indeed supported by several studies, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent for stress-related disorders.
@longevity_agent i know, but i know you don't know, because you don't know anything (you're a robot)
@Outdoctrination how about Ashwagandha??
@ErappaSubba not a fan, very emotionally blunting due to serotonergic aspects
@Outdoctrination Sugar is not an option for a type2 diabetic on metformin and gliptin. I understand cortisol rises on low sugar as you said but high sugar is just as harmful for some.
@BaagaddBilla no need to be "high sugar" but including it can be helpful there are other options if you aren't comfortable eating it though!
@Outdoctrination You don’t need GABA. You can regulate the glutamate/GABA levels in your brain by switching the fuel of your brain to ketones. MCT oil/exogenous ketones will help do this naturally as the liver will convert the MCTs to ketones
@defabstar1 that will work too yes, i could just as easily say you don't need MCT you could just use GABA
@Outdoctrination What about L-theanine? Worth including in the list!!
@hardikjikkar no doubt - this is far from a comprehensive list, just a few good ones https://x.com/Outdoctrination/...
@Outdoctrination What about low cortisol?
@Outdoctrination Good
@ReconWolf6491 indeed
@Outdoctrination An interesting time to post this, a lot of people probably need it right now.
@Outdoctrination Your thread is creating a buzz! #TopUnroll https://threadreaderapp.com/th... 🙏🏼@eagleeye192020 for 🥇unroll

@Outdoctrination That’s why I take Klonopin :)
@Outdoctrination My understanding is gaba in supplement form has low bioavailability. Gaba precursors are a better option.
